Part 2
Preparing for Story Collection
Part two of the unit prepares students for the interview and story collection they will be doing in part three. Students engage in mini-lessons and activities that familiarize them with the basics of interviewing and prepare their own interview protocols before reaching out to schedule an interview with their elder of choice.
Lesson 1: What is an Interview?
This mini-lesson will encourage students to reflect on what they already know about interviews. It will also provide students the opportunity to view a video of an interview in order to consider what interviews can be used for.

Lesson 2: Who Should I Interview?
This mini-lesson will remind students that they are working on building a tool box for resilience and that in order to do so they will be interviewing their elders to learn about how they have managed challenging times in their own lives. This mini-lesson will support students with thinking through and choosing someone they could interview and learn from.

Lesson 3: Brainstorming Questions
In this mini-lesson, the students will focus on brainstorming ideas for questions for their interview with an elder. They will also think about what types of questions will help them to gather the most information for their tool box for resilience.

Lesson 4: Scheduling the Interview
This mini-lesson will focus on reviewing the logistics of how to schedule and conduct the interview. At the end of this lesson, students will be ready to schedule their interview.
