Introduction
In this report I will be talking about the huge problem of world hunger. As a result of world hunger, humans around the world are experiencing new survival challenges. How can we reduce the effects of world hunger? We need to change the way we look at food, instead of throwing the food that is a bit funky out, why not donate it to your local food bank. Many people would benefit if we just put a little bit of effort in. In this report I will cover the causes, the consequences and the solutions of world hunger. We need to solve this global problem fast before it's too late.
Paragraph 1
People are affected by world hunger because of many things, but what are the main causes of world hunger? Cause 1: Poverty. Poverty is the principal cause of global hunger. The unequal distribution of income and lack of resources in developing countries means that millions of people simply cannot afford the land or farming supplies they need to grow, or otherwise gain access to nutritious food. Cause 2: War and Conflict. As a conflict intensifies, food can become even more scarce. This means the few remaining food stocks become increasingly expensive or insufficient (especially if rationed by the government). Either way, food becomes difficult to access. Cause 3: Unstable markets. The hungry poor depend on markets. They buy food, they sell their crops or livestock, and they sell their labour to earn income. Poor farmers often sell low and buy high because of market failures. Prices soar, supplies are not available, dependence on cereal imports increase.
Paragraph 2
World Hunger can cause many things, but what are the main consequences of world hunger? Consequence 1: Malnutrition. Malnutrition refers to getting too little or too much of certain nutrients. It can lead to serious health issues, including stunted growth, eye problems, diabetes and heart disease. Malnutrition affects billions of people worldwide. Consequence 2: Stunted Growth. Stunted growth is largely irreversible. A child cannot recover height in the same way that they can regain weight. Stunted children fall sick more often, miss opportunities to learn, perform less well in school and grow up to be economically disadvantaged, and more likely to suffer from chronic diseases.
Consequence 3: Premature Birth. Premature babies can suffer lifelong effects such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation, visual and hearing impairments, and poor health and growth. Babies born only a few weeks early often have long-term difficulties such as: Behavioral and social-emotional problems and learning difficulties.
Paragraph 3
Now world hunger is a massive problem that will probably never find a solution, but what are some solutions to help ease the effects of world hunger? Solution 1: Reducing waste. If we stopped wasting food, we could cut global emissions by 8 percent, free up valuable land and resources, and save enough food to feed 2 billion hungry people. That's a quarter of the entire world! Solution 2: Protecting crops. Not only does protecting crops increase the amount of food available, it stimulates economic growth by creating jobs, both on- and off-farm, which raise people's incomes and enable them to purchase food.
Solution 3: Supporting hygiene and sanitation. Sometimes, people (especially children) eat enough. But if they live in an area with insufficient sanitation or poor hygiene practices, they may be susceptible to diarrhea or other waterborne illnesses that prevent them from absorbing those nutrients. Making sure that drinking and washing water are uncontaminated can save a life in more ways than one.
Paragraph 4
The favoured solution is reducing food waste because it is Pretty easy, it helps people and it’s better for the environment. Reducing food waste is easy to do, it doesn't cost anything, it is in no way harmful and it isn't that hard to do. Ways we can reduce food waste are: adopt a healthier, more sustainable diet, buy only what you need, pick ugly fruit and vegetables, store food wisely, understand food labelling, start small, love your leftovers, put your food waste to use. If we stopped wasting food, we could cut global emissions by 8 percent, free up valuable land and resources, and save enough food to feed 2 billion hungry people. That's a quarter of the entire world!
Conclusion
I have covered the problems we are facing with world hunger, I have covered the causes, the consequences and the solutions. After reading this you will know that world hunger is a huge problem and we need to face it before it is too late. We need to band together as a planet and stop things like food waste, Crops being ruined, and poor hygiene and sanitation. If we all did this then there would be so much less hunger in the world. If we do not pull it together then we will be forced to live in a world of endless hunger and suffering, no one wants to do that. Thank you for reading.
