Introduction:
In the 1300s my ancestor Tamatea Ariki Nui emigrated from the Cook Islands to New Zealand. He was part of a huge wave of migration from the Cook Islands to New Zealand. He left the cook Islands because of overpopulation and natural disasters. He chose New Zealand because of the many opportunities that it offered. This inquiry looks at the push and pull factors that influenced my ancestors and many others to leave their homeland and move to the small island nation at the bottom of the South Pacific.
Push Factor 1:
Natural disasters, due to the conditions in the 1300s there were a lot of tsunamis and tornadoes. This caused people to be injured and also damage to structures. This caused people to be tired from rebuilding all the time. I think this would have been a big factor in Tamatea migrating to New Zealand.
Push Factor 2:
Lots of people and not enough resources, The cook islands are a small group of islands located in the south pacific ocean. Due to the fact that they are so small, there is not much room for everyone so many people had to share huts. I think this would have been a big factor in Tamatea migrating to New Zealand.
Discussion Of Push Factors:
The most important push factor that contributed to my ancestor migrating was natural disasters as they put him and his family in danger. This factor helped start my ancestor on their journey to New Zealand.
Pull Factor 1:
Lots of resources, Tamatea loved the fact that there was plentiful food and building materials, like the moa and the ferns. All of the bush made it easy to find shelter and settle down. I think these would have been big factors in Tamatea migrating to New Zealand.
Pull Factor 2:
No enemies, Tamatea was good in the trading game, and with little competition, it made it relatively easy for him to gather resources and gain status in New Zealand. By the time he passed away in 1878, he was well known and loved.
Discussion Of Pull Factors:
The most important pull factor that contributed to my ancestor migrating was the plethora of resources as it made life easier. This factor helped start my ancestor on their journey to New Zealand.
Conclusion:
I have told you about the push factors and the pull factors that contributed to Tamatea Ariki Nui leaving the cook islands for new Zealand and I hope you learned a lot of new stuff.
