Leadership

INTRO:

There are leaders everywhere and they can do very well in life but sometimes they can make mistakes. The good things they do can positively impact them, but they can trip up and make mistakes and that can negatively affect others. For this inquiry, I am studying leadership or ‘What are ways leaders can impact different people?.’ The reason why I am using this as my fertile question is that we are going through a time where the citizens of our country are relying on our Prime Minister to take charge and lead this country. And instead of just studying political leaders I have come up with 6 questions I have decided to research.

RQ 1 When are Appropriate times to show leadership

Leadership isn’t always at the front, leading an army into battle, leadership can just be, a student turning down peer pressure because they are leading by example. An appropriate time to show leadership depends on who you are leading, what you are leading, and why you are leading, for example, you could be a Prime Minister leading a country against a virus, you could be a teacher instructing a class, or you could even be a college student captaining a volleyball team. All of these examples are great examples because they range from a very important duty to not as important.

At the moment the NZ Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern has expressed her leadership skills during the time of COVID-19, so at the moment she is showing her leadership skills at an excellent and appropriate time.

Teachers can show leadership in many different ways and are given multiple different responsibilities. School teachers aim to improve students' learning and help them become better academically, and sometimes even socially.

Now a captain of a sports team isn’t as important as leading a country to fight against a virus but captaining a team still counts as leadership because they are leading the team and making most of the decisions on the court or on the field. Being a captain or any leader for that matter does not mean that people will automatically follow you, you must do what is right and prove yourself to them you are a worthy leader then earning their trust and their respect.

RQ 2 What are some examples of leaders?

In the world, there are and have been many great leaders that have done extraordinary things that have impacted the human race, but out of all of those leaders I have decided on this question to research on Jacinda Ardern and Caleb Maddix. Now you probably know or heard of Jacinda Ardern, if not she is the Prime Minister of New Zealand and the leader of the labor party and was the one who delivered a world-leading response to COVID 19, she promoted unity and compassion after the Mosque terrorist attack, she kept her cool during a 5.8 earthquake, she met with the responders after the white island eruption and many more awesome things a true leader would show.

Now you might not have heard of Caleb Maddix but at the moment he is an 18-year-old that made his first $1,000,000 at the age of 14. He is an author, a keynote speaker, and a social media influencer. Caleb Maddix made his money all by himself with a bit of support and advice from his father, also he has impacted people in the process. Caleb Maddix is the Co-Founder of ‘Maddix Publishing’ which is the number one book publishing company on the planet for people looking to increase their money earnings through writing books. He is an author of 11 books and writes a new one every month. He has reached out to millions of people on social media by having heaps of viral videos. Some of his videos have reached over forty million views. Caleb was voted in "The Top 20 Most Motivational People on the Planet." as well as "The Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30." His leadership qualities/traits are to Work, have Knowledge, Connections, Ability to communicate, Ability to Lead.

RQ 3 What Makes a Good Leader?

A great leader can lead from either in behind, from the front, or alongside. A great trait that these leaders have is ‘active leadership’, meaning the leader wants other people in his/her group to get involved with the challenges facing the group, then giving the group members a role to play to get past that obstacle, a great example of this is again Jacinda Ardern. She has the ability to ask for other people's support to jump on board and to help her defend her country against COVID 19, and to support those who suffered the Mosque attack and white island eruption.

Another trait a great leader can have is helping others reach for their goals. The leaders that lead alongside others are probably the ones that will do this because they are alongside helping you. These types of leaders are very important to be around because they will focus on helping you and making you reach for that goal you are going for. A good example of this is teachers. If you need any help with learning, all you gotta do is ask. Teachers will be alongside you and supporting you with your academic goals. Again another great example is Caleb Maddix, Caleb Maddix writes books for all age levels ways to become successful and to earn lots of money, and to overall become a better person.

The last trait I will be talking about is Honesty. Every good leader will need this trait otherwise you will be a good leader. Honesty is the foundation of being a good leader, no one is going to trust you %100 of the time, especially when you don’t give your honesty back to them. Honesty is like the roots of a tree, if you don’t have it you won’t succeed.

RQ 4 What are Different Types of Leaders?

Like all the previous examples of leaders each and every one of them has a different way of leading. But the 2 types of leadership styles that I have researched are the Authorisation style and the Democratic.

Firstly the Authorisation style. The Authorisation leadership style is identified when the leader makes all of the decisions within the group generally without talking about it with the team and considering their ideas.

Now the Democratic leadership style is where the group members take part in the decision-making process, and the group members are more likely to take part and be more confident to take part in this part of the process.

RQ 5 What can Leaders do to those around them?

Leaders can impact others in many ways whether it is in a positive way or a negative way. But for this research question, I have researched the advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of the authorization style of leadership.

Advantages, The leaders using this style of leadership often make decisions on their own, They do not conclude with their team members in their group which can be a disadvantage but it can be good if you need to make a decision in an emergency, and the last advantage is that it can make the group be more productive.

Disadvantages, leaders who are often using the authorization leadership style are usually claimed to be controlling or bossy, and it reduces the amount of group input that the group will do. Many people will usually feel to work better when they know or feel that their contribution has made a positive impact on team

RQ 6 How can Leadership Impact you?

Being a leader has many good things that can come with it, also a lot of bad things that can happen as well. The examples that I have researched are business owners in sports captains. Business owners can be great leaders and being a business owner will help you develop your skills to make critical decisions and to set goals for your organization. Business leaders make hard decisions all the time, and being a successful business owner can help the owner stick to their decision no matter the rejection of others.

Sports captains, being named a sports captain is quite a big deal. The title of a captain is quite an honor and means that others in the sports team coach includes, respects him/her and trusts them to lead them in the right direction. However, with great honor comes a lot of responsibility, and the team captain must stand forward and take accountability after a bad performance of practice. Team captains are just as important as coaches and best respected just as much.

Proper Team Captains will be able to motivate their team when it is needed, rally it out of the slump with a quick few words, and work with the coaches to solve any on the court issues that might be observed.

Conclusion

In conclusion there are many ways to either improve your leadership skills, others leadership skills and examples of leadership in action. As well as improving mine and others leadership skills I also learned times to be able to express my leadership skills, also some of the key traits to becoming a great leader, how leaders can impact others and themself, and also the ways in which some leaders act either in a good way or in a bad way, and now that I know the way that people won’t trust me as much I will most definitely avoid those area. But to conclude this report, leadership is a very important part in everyday life because of the many different way that it can affect you and those around you whom you are leading.
