Volleyball

Intro

This inquiry report will mainly be based around mine (Te Amorangi) and Aaven’s passion, volleyball. Aaven and I have chosen this topic because we both enjoy volleyball and think that it is a really cool sport to play. Furthermore, we have gathered information on 8 questions that we have chosen to do about volleyball.

Question #1: What is volleyball? (indoor and beach)

Indoor volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport that has 2 teams of 6 players on a court in which both teams are separated by a net. Each team tries to hit the ball on the ground on the other team’s side of the net to score a point.

Beach volleyball

Beach volleyball is quite different to indoor volleyball. The first difference is that it played outdoors on a beach. Another difference is that each team has only 2 players on each team. A third difference is they use a different type of scoring. It is a shorter game and they only play to 21 points not 25 like indoor volleyball. They also use a different ball to indoor volleyball. It is lighter. And the last thing is beach volleyball has a smaller court size.

Question #2: What you need to play volleyball?

To play volleyball you need a net the net is so that you have something to hit the ball over and to stop the ball if you don’t hit it high enough and to separate the teams. You will also need a ball. The ball is the most important thing because this is what you hit and without it you would be hitting air so this is the most important thing you will need. It is what you hit over the net that we previously talked about.

You will also need a place to play. It could be outdoor or it could be indoor. This may also determine the type of volleyball you play. warning (the rest of the things are optional but many people use them) Most people wear shoes when playing volleyball so that you don’t hurt your feet when someone stands on them. People also were sporting shorts and a t-shirt so that you have good airflow when playing.

Question #3: Where is Volleyball Played?

Volleyball can be played anywhere as long as have the correct equipment like what is explained in the previous paragraph (things like a volleyball, a net), but usually, volleyball is played on an indoor volleyball court or a beach volleyball court, (explained in paragraph #1) but as long as you have the equipment you can play where

Question #4:How can Volleyball benefit you?

Volleyball is a good sport to get stronger because you do so much jumping around and trying to hit the ball or do hit the ball your biceps get bigger and when you do it more it gets easier to play because you are more fit and benefits you so when you go to a different sport you are strong and flexible Volleyball also improves muscle strength and tone. The activities required when playing volleyball strengthen the upper body, arms, shoulders, thighs, abdominals, and lower legs. In addition, volleyball improves hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and balance.

On 9th February 1895 William G. Morgan the director of physical education at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts. William G. Morgan went to the YMCA Springfield College where he met James Naismith the inventor of basketball. After graduating he kept working at the YMCA and then got a job as the director of physical education in herby Holyoke. He realized that the speed of basketball made it quite hard for weaker people and older athletes to play so then he thought he would try to make a new game.

He was thinking of basketball so he thought that he wanted it to be able to play inside and he wanted it to be a lower contact sport than he thought about tennis but you need a lot of equipment to play tennis but he thought that the net was a good idea. At first, the game was called mignonette. Morgan took a year to get the rules right once he had done that he staged an exhibition match at the 1896 YMCA physical directors conference at Springfield.

After getting the attention of the director of the professional physical training school, Dr. Luther Gulick. Then it got the attention of Dr. Alfrid T who said that he should rename it volleyball. Since he had a good response he kept experimenting with the rules first by raising the height of the net then trying different types of balls, lighter ones, and heavier ones.
