Respect has helped me in my PE classes this year because before, I didn't realise PE was about respect. After learning more, I have now realised that I can display respect while doing anything. I show respect to my team, to the opposition, the teacher, and the gear.
Respect has helped me outside of my PE classes to get leadership opportunities in the classroom, on out in the cricket pitch. Being respectful, and learning how to respect someone and their belongings has given me more opportunities to lead.
Respect has helped each dimension of my Hauora.
Physical: I am respectful to belongings, and not just people. This has helped me function better on the physical side with not getting injured so much.
Mental/Emotional: Being respectful to others makes me feel better. When I do not show respect, I feel bad, and want to go back and change it. However, when i do show respect, I feel good and then go on to show more respect.
Social: When I show respect to others, I earn their respect in turn. They see me being respectful and carrying through the things I have learnt in health class. Then, they want to show respect to me and we have a closer relationship and my social Hauora grows.
Spiritual: Respecting my own beliefs sometimes takes a lot of work. But being able to show respect to even myself helps me feel better about who I am.
