Mars

Day 1: 10th of August 2020 is Mitchells and my big day. We are travelling forty one days in space, heading to Mars. Mitchell and I suit up and head to the spaceship to make history. 10, 9, 8, 7, my heart starts beating 6, 5, 4, I looked out at people's distraught faces 3, 2, 1, dust flies up to the little window on the spaceship as we had lift-off. The people's faces on the ground gradually get smaller and smaller.

Week 1 / Space: One week in and Mitchell and I are nervously waiting till we reach the red planet. Since we are humans and we're used to gravity, being in space as a whole different cool experience. When you look out the windows in space you feel like you are trapped in a closet with the slightest light seeping through the cracks of the door from the bedroom light.

Week 7 / Arrival: Forty one days later we no longer had to wait. We had made it to Mars. We both looked out the little windows on the spaceship and saw many cool features. We saw the Mariner Valley which is the biggest canyon on Mars that runs along the equator of Mars. We also saw the Olympus Mons the biggest mountain and volcano in the whole solar system and the Hellas Planitia the biggest crater on Mars with a diameter of 2253 km. The landing was the easiest part, but putting on the Z-2 ( space suit ) was the hardest. This was because the -18c temperature cold air could not be stopped from our Rocketship so we were freezing down to our bare bones trying to fit in our spacesuits.

Week 13: Mars has been a mission but I think after these couple of weeks we have collected a heap of samples and also found a way to grow plants ( reusing our waste to help prevent radiation from Mars atmosphere ). Mars is a difficult planet to explore because of its terrain so we sent the MMRTG ( with wheels a robot designed by NASA the turns radiation into electricity ) to go explore for future habitable spots.

Week 20: It is now been thirteen weeks since our arrival and we have accomplished a lot in these long thirteen weeks. Four weeks ago the MMRTG came back with a very cool sample of water from the planets poles, This means we could possibly colonise this planet. At this point, Mitchell and I are waiting for NASA's response to head back home.

Week 50 / Leaving day: Ring, ring we got a video message from NASA saying you're all good to head back home. Mitchell and I do our last journal and suit up for the long ride ahead. Personally I thought it was a really cool experience with some challenges along the way but in the end, we had a good time and we're excited to get back.
