Bowentown Camp

Arriving

Brmm, Brmm our bus arrives at the beautiful place of Bowentown. The scorching sun hit us as we made our first steps out of the bus. Bowentown is located 45 minutes away from Tauranga and just 20 minutes away from Waihi .Our teachers tell us to get our bags and follow Mr T to our campsite. 20 minutes to set up your tent,” yells” Mr T sounding like if we don't follow that time limit we would get a punishment. As I look around everybody with their small tents basically finished. Then my group with the biggest tent, still working away trying to get our tent finished before the time limit. 30 minutes later we were all getting into our togs, ready to have our first beach session.

1st beach session

Mr T gave us various options to do in the water eg: Boogie boarding, Surfing, playing sports on the beach and just swimming. Personally, I choose to go boogie boarding, partly because some of my friends were doing that activity and because I enjoyed it. After Mr T gave us a quick talk about the rules, then yells “GO!” and everybody ran into the water, all I could hear was splish, splash of people running into the water. As I see these waves crashing in front of me, I knew it was going to be fun.

Dinner Time! / Teli-ho

3 hours later after a good first beach session, we got told to cook our first dinner which for us was sausages or uncooked sausages for us. Unlucky for my group we had to try to eat sausages that could give us food poisoning. After we had finished eating sausages that could have got us sick, everybody was getting changed it to dark coloured clothes for a game called Teli-ho. Teli-ho is a game where its pitch black and you have to try to get the opponents to flag back across the middle line. Playing Teli-ho in the professional arena at Bowentown is like playing for the Chiefs rugby team at there home stadium. So as you know now playing Teli-ho at Bowentown stadium is pretty cool and special. BEEP! Mr T pressed the siren and both the teams ran down the hill, not even knowing if you’re going to hit a bump and trip up. After a couple of games, it was time to go to bed unfortunately for my team we ended up losing and had to go to sleep knowing we had just lost.

Day 2 / morning run / Yummy Breakfast

7:00 o, clock in the morning Mr T says "Everybody wake up, we're going for a run". As I look around, all I see is people slowly stepping out of there tent, yawning and walking to our meeting spot. C, mon said Mr T and we start walking towards the hill were about to run up. "Go," said the teachers and then most of the class starts running trying to get to that 1st place position. All I could hear was people huffing and puffing trying to keep up with me. "Finally," I said to my self, I had made it to the top and all had was the downhill. Instead of coming first, I sadly came second. Before the run, we got told we you finish, start cooking your breakfast. Since I was second I went down and choose the best barbeque and started cooking our bacon and eggs. Most of the other groups had pretty boring breakfast's. So then imagine having the best breakfast there then being asked by everyone, "can I have some, please!". Trust me It was kind of annoying, till the point where you could trade stuff for a piece of bacon.
