Aiming to improve their skills and competencies in carrying out the operations of their respective offices, clerks and assistants from the different colleges, offices and units of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) gathered at the TAU AgriTourism Hostel Function Hall on 11-12 July for the 1st Annual Capacity Building for Office Clerks and Office Assistants.

The two-day orientation-seminar was spearheaded by the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Administration, the CAO for Finance, the Budget Office, the Procurement Office, and the Human Resource and Management Office (HRMO).

Dr. Sonny DC. Torres, the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) from the Office of the Vice President and Academic Affairs (OVPAA), welcomed the participants on the first day of training and emphasized the crucial role that office clerks and office assistants play in the seamless operations of TAU offices.

The session started with a pre-test to assess the participants' baseline knowledge and allow the facilitators to tailor the content more effectively. Later on, Ms. Maricel D. Felipe, the OIC at the HRMO, discussed Office Management and Office Protocols. The Document Controllership and QMS Protocols, and relevant provisions of RA 9470 โ€œNational Archives of the Philippines Act of 2007โ€ were then discussed by Mr. Jay-Ar De Mayo, Document Control Officer, and Ms. Zenaida C. Sahagun, OIC Chief at the Records Management Unit, respectively. The Procurement Process was also discussed by Mr. Eduardo Cabrera II, the Chief of the Procurement Office.

On the second day, Ms. Yolanda F. Juan, the OIC at the CAO for Administration, shared her career journey at TAU, encouraging the employees under Contract of Service (COS) status to maintain their passion for work and continuously contribute to fostering a harmonious and efficient workplace.

Furthermore, participants engaged in a discussion and received an overview of the Bookkeeping and Budgetary Processes presented by Mr. Lyde G. Ragus, Chief of the Accounting Office, and Ms. Helen Ruzol, OIC-Budget Office. This was followed by a lecture on Internal Controls by Mr. Dante Revamonte, CAO for Finance, and concluded with an overview of Technology Advancement by Mr. Jahvee Ezra Lumbreras, a technical staff from Administrative Services.

With the inaugural event being a success, the proponents intend to conduct this activity annually to provide tools and knowledge to the staff, regardless of employment status, for their continuous learning and professional development while contributing to more seamless University processes that conform with the statutory and regulatory requirements.

๐‚๐‡๐‘๐Ž๐๐ˆ๐‚๐‹๐„๐’ | TAU-CBM's BSTM program undergoes reg'l CHED quality evaluation

The Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office III (CHEDRO 3) visited the Tarlac Agricultural University's College of Business and Management (TAU-CBM) on 5 July for a survey visit to evaluate its Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) program and validate the universityโ€™s adherence to the requirements for the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC).

The RQAT assessor, Dr. Maria Anna David-Cruz of Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU), was welcomed by Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, TAU president, and the TAU-CBM faculty members led by their current dean, Dr. Erlie SD. Totaan at the Office of the President (OP) Conference Room.

In his message, Dr. Salunson declared that TAU is seeking to standardize its tourism program. "We want to help our neighboring towns manage the influx of tourists. We want them to be prepared to provide any service that growing and increasingly discerning potential customers are looking for or expecting from them," the TAU president said.

Following the presentation of RQAT objectives by Dr. David-Cruz, the formal assessment began with an ocular visit at the CBM building, Agritourism Hostel, and University Library. Aside from the curriculum, the RQAT assessor evaluated other aspects of the program such as the administration, faculty, library, physical facilities, and student services.

Concluding the RQAT visit, Dr. David-Cruz summarized the key observations and outcomes of the assessment as she also appreciated the entire CBM family for their collaborative efforts.ย  The assessor also gave general remarks aimed for the continuous enhancement and improvement in some areas of the program.

The RQAT is intended to ensure that the BSTM program offered by TAU-CBM is of high quality and meets the required standards. This assessment is one of the requirements for TAU to ensure that there are student learning environments with quality instruction and sufficient resources and facilities. The CHEDโ€™s approval of such an audit signifies the commitment of the University to ensuring better services to its key customers; the students.

TAU employees join mid-year festival in Isabela Province

Led by Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) President, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, the 125-strong TAU delegation gathered for the Sociocultural and Sports Mid-year Festival at Isabela State University (ISU) in Echague, Isabela from 1-5 July.

The annual assembly of faculty and non-teaching staff from state universities and colleges (SUCs) north of Metro Manila, steered by the Association of State Colleges and Universities - Solid North (ASCU-SN), showcased friendly games and competitions, celebrating the distinct heritage of Northern and Central Luzon provinces, and fostering the advancement of sports culture and promotion of health and wellness among SUC workers.

Proving their unparalleled skills, TAUian athletes earned first-place finishes in several categories. Ms. Rizafel B. Salcedo and Ms. Jenah B. Sotero outmaneuvered their opponents in the Table Tennis Doubles Women (40 Above), while Mr. Angelo P. Guillermo aced his games and captured the top spot in Table Tennis Men (39 Below). Dr. Joven D. Valdez and Engr. John Leonard M. Constantino also triumphed in their respective divisions in lawn tennis. In addition, Mr. Danilo F. Dela Cruz proved his dominance in Shot Put Men (46 Above).

Dr. Emerson B. Cuzzamu, OIC Director of the Sports Development Office, attributed these victories to the playersโ€™ commitment and discipline. โ€œWith consistent practice and support from the TAU administration, our athletes will surely secure more recognition in the future editions of ASCU-SN,โ€ Dr. Cuzzamu said. To ensure that the University continues to produce top-caliber athletes, Dr. Cuzzamu shared that his office is looking into the possible implementation of long-term sports development programs tailored for TAU employees.

The TAU artists were also all-out in their campaign to bring home the coveted trophy in the Retro Dance Craze contest. Fueled by their passion for dance, 16 performers impressed both judges and audience in their much-applauded interpretation of 60s, 70s, and 80s music and trends.

โ€œI want to congratulate our team for the hard work and painstaking efforts we exerted,โ€ Ms. Grace Kelly G. Dela Cruz, team member, shared. Furthermore, Ms. Cecile L. Lapitan, OIC Director of Sociocultural Development Office, commended the group members for their sacrifices during the preparations. โ€œWe are thrilled with this award. Our team did not give up even if we were up against more prominent teams from established names in performing arts,โ€ Ms. Lapitan remarked.

Meanwhile, Dr. Salunson also took his oath as the new Vice President of ASCU-SN after being elected by his fellow presidents during the board meeting on 2 July. โ€œTAU will always be an active partner of ASCU-SN-member SUCs as we advocate for collaboration, not competition,โ€ Dr. Salunson mentioned during the opening ceremony, acknowledging the value of synergy in collective actions.

Meanwhile, the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Ilocos Norte will host the assembly next year.
