Dr. Jeannet Stephen received earlier training from UKM Bangi with a B.Ed. (Hons) in TESL, and later obtained her MA in Applied Linguistics and Bilingualism at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. She obtained her doctorate in the field of language learning and teaching from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Currently, she heads the Language and Linguistics cluster and holds the administrative role of Deputy Director at the Borneo Institute for Indigenous Studies (BorIIS) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Her research interests include language planning and policy, and indigenous peoples’ education. Her most recent publication can be found in the International Journal of Comparative Education and Development amongst others.
Moderator: Heng Ee How
Ms. Heng Ee How holds a Master of Education Specialization in English language teaching (UUM), a Bachelor of Language and Linguistics (UM), a Professional Certificate in Communication Skills (Trinity College London, UK) and a Japanese Language & Culture certificate (Soka University, Japan). Currently, she teaches English language courses, public speaking and Japanese language at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology. She was the organising committee and session chair of the Malaysian Applied Linguistics Association Asia Pacific Conference (MAAL APC) 2022 and the associate editor of Malaysian Applied Linguistics Association newsletter (2022) editorial committee. She worked in tandem with national and international universities in research publications and published articles in some refereed journal and association newsletter. At present, she is the TAR UMT Research Symposium Co-chair and the principal researcher of a research project.
