Founded in 1980, the Conference of Spanish in the US brings together researchers from various disciplines, including linguistics, sociology, anthropology, education, and legal studies, with the purpose of investigating a wide range of topics related to Spanish and Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. Since 1991, the Conference of Spanish in the US has been held in conjunction wit the Conference of Spanish in Contact with Other Languages, allowing productive connections between researchers focusing on the US context and others investigating the entire Spanish-speaking world. A brief history of the conference can be found here and on the conference Facebook page.
Over the years, interest and participation in our conferences have increased, thanks to the growing public and scholarly recognition of Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S. The conference is now held every two years, on odd years. Its most recent iterations have been held in Provo, UT (2017), Cleveland, OH (2019), and Dallas, TX (2023).
