Curation and Core Handling Lab Working Group Minutes
10/30/14
Present: Helen Evans, Tim Bronk, Brad Julson, Amy McWilliams, Katerina Petronotis, Carlos Zarikian, Phil Rumford, Algie Morgan, Sandra Herman.
Item 1: Matters arising from 350 / 352 post cruise evals - none relating to curation.
Item 2: Structural changes to LIME - Chad had the following questions/issues (please see attached .png file):
A common entry error is entering a sample on a section instead of a section half. This requires either re-parenting or deleting based on how the user chooses to correct this error. The user commonly opts to re-enter the sample on the section half. Often they do not report that they have done this. When given the time, I manually go through every section to view entry mistakes. (This is the only way to 'efficiently' do this). In the example given, there is no way (in LIME) to see the interval the incorrect entries on section were taken. In this case the ICP, CARB, XRD, and KUTT sample.
In the case of duplicate entries on section and section half (not in this example), it is imperative to easily view the interval of the sample logged against the section. This determines if the sample needs to be canceled or re-entered.
I would like to request that LIME displays the section offset information for samples logged against sections.
Action: As Chad was unavailable for the meeting, the LIME discussion was deferred to a special meeting of the LWG to be held on 11/4/14.
Item 3: Maggies macros
Maggie gave a demonstration of the macros that she developed along with Chad on Exp 352 to aid in the compilation of sampling lists for shipboard sample parties, and the subsequent checking of data and samples. We discussed ways to make them applicable to shore based sample parties.
Item 4: Exp 346 sample party uploads
Toshio provided Expedition 346 sampling party sample data for uploading into the LIMS about 2 months ago. The KCC would like to hear any progress in this matter.
Action: John Firth has been assigned to upload the data into LIMS.
Item 5: Update - SaDR project submission - no developments to report.
