Item 1: Expedition 353 issues – none related to curation
Item 2: Changing the smear slide label design
Maggie noted “The current 1D barcode used is truncated for longer SS labels e.g. NANNO1234567 is too long and gets cut off, rendering it unreadable”.
Action: Ask Maggie to re-design the label and submit to the LWG for final approval. The LWG had a couple of suggestions:
1. A wrap-around label, twice the width of the current label that can cover both the front and back of the slide. Have the barcode on one side and the data on the other.
2. Use two labels one front and one back. Might get a little confusing if dealing with more than 1 slide at a time.
Item 3: Sample Party updates
Update to Group: It is our current understanding that sampling parties planned for Expeditions 356 on (a 355 Sample Party may coincide with the GCR refurbishment, 353 and 354 have been scheduled already)) will be held at the GCR not the KCC. Cores will be shipped form the JR directly to the GCR where they will be kept until the conclusion of the sample party. The cores will then be shipped to the KCC for storage.
Item 4: GCR Refurbishment
Update to Group: The initial demolition and re-build plans for the GCR have been approved and signed by Brad Clement. Efforts are now underway to schedule the refurbishment so as to minimize its impact upon the GCR operations. It is hoped that the work will begin in the July/August time frame.
