You MUST work under a broker for your first 3 years: This is required of you to be an active agent and participate in real estate transactions. Once you are ready to process your license with a brokerage, you will pay $60 to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency to process your application and activate your license. You will have one year to do this or the Real Estate Commission will hold your license inactive until you decide where to place it.
After you choose a brokerage, you will need to join your board of realtors. In the Indy metro area, this board is the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR). With MIBOR, you will pay a one time $400 application fee, along with pro-rated membership and technology dues. The dues are $760 a year and technology fees are $456 a year (or $245.50 twice a year).
NOTE: MIBOR fees are set by MIBOR, and the Tucker School, nor any Brokerage, has control over those fees. Fees are subject to change, so please visit MIBOR.com, or the website for your local association, for the most up to date information.
Good to Know
In Indiana, the term Broker and Real Estate Agent are synonymous.
You must be 18 years of age and have received a high school diploma or equivalent to apply for your license with the state of Indiana.
Indiana Law provides that all residents of the state (and some non-residents) have the opportunity to earn an Indiana Real Estate license provided they have a high school diploma or a General Education diploma and have successfully completed other educational and testing requirements.
An exception to this rule exists dealing with individuals convicted of crimes that might have a bearing on that individual’s ability to be fair, safe, and honest with members of the public.
If an applicant has a previous felony conviction, and especially if that individual is currently on probation for that offense, the Tucker School of Real Estate encourages the applicant to contact the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency for counsel prior to enrolling in a pre-licensing class.
