Demand for new housing is projected to be relatively steady into the future, meaning that around 4500 new houses might be needed by 2040. At the same time, Dunedin’s population growth is projected to slow down, and the population will get older overall. This means that there will need to be more houses but fewer people will live in each one, and there will be more elderly people.
How should Dunedin enable housing to meet people’s needs into the long term? What are the benefits and costs of different types of housing and locations for housing, for people and the environment?
Key points to consider include house size, design, location and how existing larger housing might need to change.
