The Community Service Assignment ensures all students have the opportunity to experience the power of making a difference in our community by helping others. Through community service, individuals change lives, improve communities, solve problems and create lasting change in our world.
All 10 hours of community service must be completed while in high school (any community service completed in middle school does not count towards STEP). Community service that counts for STEP must be completed by mid-April of senior year.
Go to Google Classroom to complete assignment. If you are not a second semester senior, scroll down to join your class.
Community Service Verification Form with Hours Log - must include contact information and signatures
Get printed copies of the form in the Future Ready Center
Evidence/Pictures - You will need to provide convincing evidence that you completed your community service in addition to your signed log. Most students take 1-3 pictures of themselves engaged in the service, but you can also use items like service logs from the community service organization. Look at pages 3-7 of the Overview to see examples of evidence.

You must meet standard by earning at least 70% on the assignment in order to meet the graduation requirement, which is a score of 2.8 or above. Assignments will be returned as incomplete if sections are left unfinished. If your assignment is incomplete, you will need to revise and resubmit. The highest grade an incomplete or late assignment can earn is a 2.8/4.

Your assignment will be graded pass/fail. A 4/4 is a pass. If your assignment is returned without a grade, it needs to be revised. Once you have earned a 4/4, you have met the community service requirement for graduation.
Students can win a Presidential Volunteer Service Award for outstanding community service. Look under Community Service on the Future Ready Center website. The VOLUNTEER AWARD tab has all the information. Students who have won a PVSA award at any grade level can use those hours for this assignment.
