To earn a Tahoma High School diploma students must fulfill the following categories of requirements:
High School & Beyond Plan: Tahoma High School students work on their High School & Beyond plan in grades 8-12. Students meet the High School & Beyond Plan requirement by completing the required components of the Senior Transition Exit Plan. Learn more about STEP here.
Credits in the Right Areas: Earned credit minimum is 29 and all following areas must be fulfilled:
4.0 English Language Arts
3.0 Mathematics
3.0 Science
3.0 Social Studies
0.5 Health
1.5 Fitness
1.0 Fine Arts *
1.0 Career & Technical Education
12.0 Elective Credits *
*These credits vary depending on what students want to do after high school:
Fine Arts - 1.0 or 2.0: Students who wish to pursue a career in fine arts need to earn 2 credits // Students who do NOT wish to pursue a career in fine arts need to earn 1 credit in fine arts, and a second credit related to their Personal Pathway.
Personal Pathway courses are any courses that relate to what a student wants to do after high school.
World Language - 0 or 2.0: Students who wish to attend a four-year college/university after graduation need to earn 2 credits of the same world language // Students who do NOT wish to attend a a four-year college after graduation may earn these 2 credits with classes related to their Personal Pathway.
Personal Pathway courses are any courses that relate to what a student wants to do after high school.
Graduation Pathway
Students need to meet a Graduation Pathway in ELA & math. There are several options for meeting this requirement. More details can be found here.
Washington State History Milestone
Students need to have taken and passed a WA State History class in middle school or through an approved alternative option. Alpha counselors can assist your student in determining how to meet this need.
