GPA Calculation
Students will often wonder how their grade point average (GPA) is calculated. Letter grades are awarded at the end of each semester on your transcript.
Letter grades have Grade Point Value Conversions. The values are located at the top of your Transcript.
From the Washington State Transcript:
A = 4.0 C = 2.0
A- = 3.7 C- = 1.7
B+ = 3.3 D+ = 1.3
B = 3.0 D = 1.0
B- = 2.7 E = 0.0
C+ = 2.3 F = 0.0
Steps:
For each semester students can take the letter grade and find the Grade Point Value for each course.
The grade point value would need to be multiplied by the credits received for each course in the semester (most are 0.5 - but some award a 1.0 at semester).
Those values need to all be added together.
That total is divided by the total number of CREDITS.
The result is the Grade Point Average for the semester.
