Welcome to Beginner Strings for Fall 2025! If you have not registered, please do that asap and reach out to me robin.moreland@tafa.org.
Save the Date: August 7 from 8:30 to 12:00
For instrument set up and class orientation. I will send an email with a sign-up link for a 25-minute time slot. Bring your instrument and I will get it ready with tape and stickers for our first class.
After you have created your account, go to the EEi website to sign in and access our class.
Supplies/Music
Please label everything with your name
Get these supplies before the instrument set up day.
General for all Instruments:
● Sturdy 1 inch Black 3-ring Binder with 5-10 sheet protectors
● Essential Elements Book 1 for your instrument
● Pencil
● Instrument
● Tuner/metronome - Suggested Clip on Tuner- D’Addario Eclipse Tuner
(it says for guitar but works well with strings)
● Rosin
● Cloth to wipe off instrument- (soft wash cloth, microfiber cloth)
● Music stand for home practice (you do not need to bring to class)
● Access to a computer with headphones for Essential Elements Interactive practice with recordings
● Printer to print music parts sent through email
● Suggested: 3 ring Zipper Pouch to hold pencil, rosin, and flash cards, clip on tuner
Instrument Specific Supplies:
● Violin/Viola: Shoulder pad
Shoulder shape-High density foam, Preferred for younger students
Kun-Shaped rest (be sure to get your instrument and size)
Everest- Less expensive than Kun (be sure to get your instrument and size)
● Cello: chair strap
● Bass: rock stop, chair strap and stool
● Replacement set of strings: If you rent from Arlington Strings, they replace strings for free and you do not need to purchase extras.
Violin: Thomastik-Alphayue-Violin-Strings (get for your size)
Viola: DAddario-Prelude (get for your size)
Cello: DAddario-J1010-Prelude (get for your size) * can just get a D and A string as they are most likely to break.
