This sculpture relates to my identity and how I have created a new identity from my old identity. The project title is ‘transition’ and this artwork literally explodes from my Chinese identity and the materials I have used communicate this idea.

At the very centre of this work is a hidden ball which represents China in addition to the broken China crockery at the ends of the rods. The broken China at the ends of the acrylic rods demonstrates how directly I am breaking away from my birth place. Simultaneously, I am creating a new identity from these broken pieces. The photographs display the sculpture with lighting. The lighting was inspired by the Chinese light show in China and it evokes the song 'true colours' by Cyndi Lauper which was unintended.
