Butterfly Garden
In the fall of 2022, students in Mrs. Roberto's class decided they wanted to leave a legacy: a Butterfly Garden for all to enjoy. They put together a proposition, enlisted help from many incredible resources, and they began planning how to make a perfect sanctuary for the Monarch butterfly. We began digging, planting, and painting in April 2023. Many students at Harker also joined the Summer Clubs to continue creating and maintaining the beautiful garden space.
Fast forward to the fall of 2023: We are now a Certified Waystation, which certifies that Wings and Wonder Butterfly Garden provides Milkweed, nectar sources, and shelter needed to sustain Monarch butterflies as they migrate through North America. We are very proud of what we have accomplished so far and will continue growing our garden with all Harker students!
Below are some side-by-side comparisons to where we started (April 2023) and where we are now in our Wings and Wonder Butterfly Garden process.

It is difficult to truly catch the beauty of the entire garden from one picture. Here is a video spanning the garden, taken April of 2023. [before]
This video spanning the garden was taken August 2023, just four months after the "before" video.
