To perfectly signify the start of a new school year and the start of new Monarch magic, Mrs. Roberto´s classroom chrysalis emerged on the first day of school! The students got to see the process of this beautiful Monarch emerging and drying his wings right away.

This is Isabella the Monarch, who allowed everyone in Mrs. Roberto's class to hold her before she fluttered away. The class was so excited to be able to hold her!

Mrs. Cancila's class had a hands-on learning experience out back in Harker's garden. They learned how to tell between male and female Monarchs, they learned about where they hide for shelter, and the different parts of a butterfly.

This is the second year for our Classroom Chrysalis initiative, where we share a chrysalis to each classroom that volunteers. We carefully hand-raise the Monarchs starting when they are an egg, and once they are in the chrysalis phase, we share one with each class. This year, 20 classrooms/teachers participated and we are so excited to share their journeys with you here!
