1. For the safety of all students and staff, student movement will be limited. If students traditionally "change" classrooms, teachers will now switch instead of students. Students will remain in their classrooms.
2. Teachers who push into more than 2 classrooms will teach 6 feet away from the students at all times. Staff who visit more than 2 classrooms will NOT be walking around through the classroom. Traveling staff will conduct all lessons in the front of the classroom ONLY. This includes: guidance staff teaching when teaching character education lessons and 6th grade departmentalized staff.
3. Small group instruction will take place when plexi-glass partitions or 6 foot social distancing can be ensured.
4. All special area subjects will be taught remotely. This decision was made for the safety of our staff who have contact with every student and every staff member each week. (Some staff have contact with every student and every staff member across multiple buildings.) SWSD values our related arts program and is committed to ensuring our students receive the benefit of the content in the safest way possible. Therefore, special area classes will be taught on Wednesdays - the District's Universal Distance Learning Day. We recognize that this is not less than desirable, but we must prioritize the safety of our students and staff above all else.
5. During Group A and B days, special area teachers will be assigned to specific classrooms without a second teacher. This is an attempt to support student learning and address instructional gaps as effectively as possible. SWSD refers to this plan as the "all hands on deck" model.
6. Although physical education will not be taught on-site, students may occasionally enjoy time outside for recess / free-play time with their class. However, classes will be assigned a designated outdoor area, and classes will not commingle. (Playground equipment will remain closed.)
7. Student supplies will be stored in each classroom in a student specific container. Supply sharing will be strongly discouraged.
8. SWSD does not own enough devices to support a 1:1 Chromebook model for all students in grades PK - 6. However, the District will loan Chromebooks to students in need. We recognize that it is imperative for students to have at least one device per family. Students who receive a District supplied device will be required to:
a) charge their Chromebooks each night
b) bring their Chromebook to and from school
c) remember not to share their Chromebook with other classmates.
9. Large scale gatherings will be cancelled until further notice. Therefore, assemblies will not be scheduled and after-school clubs will not be organized until we resume full-capacity instruction.
