Program Objectives

To have meaningful conversations about democracy, it's important to learn about Quebec society. But just knowing things isn't enough to be a good citizen. Thinking deeply, reflecting carefully, and considering how ethical issues affect people's lives are also essential for being a good citizen.

Module 1.4

The three objectives help achieve the three aims of the Québec Education Program (QEP):

NOTE: The program has one main goal: prepare students to exercise citizenship in Quebec. The other two goals are meant to support the achievement of the main goal.

Understanding the Foundations of the Program

Here are three interactive presentations produced by the team at MEQ. The goal of these presentations is to foster a common understanding of the foundations of the program in different school settings throughout the province.

Module 1.5

Sociology is a scientific study of human behaviors, social relations and societies. It investigates how social structures shape our individual experiences, behavior, and perception. The main goal of sociology is to understand the social forces that shape our lives and how they affect different groups in different ways.

Epistemology is the branch of philosophy concerned with the study of knowledge. It explores the nature and sources of knowledge, as well as the justification and limits of beliefs. Epistemology also considers how beliefs are acquired, developed, and modified.

Ethics is a set of principles that guide human behavior and decision-making. It involves considering the impact of actions on individuals and society as a whole. Ethics helps us determine what is right and wrong, and promotes accountability and responsibility.
