A lot of work is set on Accelerated Maths (homework assignment book). You can also finish exercises, tests and diagnostic tests in all the other assignment books. For more maths activities remember to use Mathletics. In addition to subject exercises here, there are also arithmetic tests set for you to do.
Reading: Remember to read every day. I have been checking Accelerated Reading everyday. Well done to the children who completed and passed tests this week. Aim to read a book this week and complete a quiz.
Don’t forget to keep logging into Spag.com too. It is important to keep all those Spag terms fresh in your brains so that you don't forget them.

A Year 6 Exclusive!
Year 6, we are planning to put together a Leavers’ Book and a Leavers’ video to mark your time at Sir William Burrough School. We need every Year 6 to share their memories of their time at SWB. This week, you will be writing your contribution for the Leavers' Book (more details below). Next week, there will be information about how you can take part in the Leavers' video.

Writing
Use your lap top, i-pad or the device you usually use to type out a short autobiography about your time at Sir William Burrough School. Organise your writing in the correct chronological order ( correct time sequence). For most of you, that will mean you will write about a memory or memories of your time in nursery first. Next, you will write about something from KS1 and finally, you will recall a memory or memories from KS2. You can also pick out memorable events like school trips, excursions, parties and concerts to write about. Write about your friends, T.A.s and teachers. If you joined our school later, then perhaps you can do some memories from your previous school and compare them with memories from Sir William Burrough.
Year 6, these memories will be used in the Leavers’ Book so make sure that when you look back at the book in later years they truly reflect the experience you have had at the school. I would love you to focus on the good things about your time at the school and the things that made your time here so special. Try to sum up the quality of your experience at the school in a paragraph of about two hundred words. Of course, you need to ensure that your writing is correctly spelt with accurate punctuation. This prompt sheet may help to frame your writing.

The same word in a sentence can be a different word class depending on how it is used. For instance, in the sentence: He gave the ball a big hit, the word hit is used as a noun. However, in the sentence: He hit the ball, it’s used as a verb. Try identifying the different word classes on this sheet.
Extension: Have a go at writing sentences using the same word but as different word classes. Hint: remember a noun will often be preceded by the article a/an/the, with or without an adjective and a verb will often have the subject pronoun (the person or thing doing the action) - he/she/it/I/you or it may well have the word to in front of it as in, to hit, to run and this shows the infinitive form of the verb.

Grab a piece of paper and a pencil and start the spelling video for this week’s spelling test. Some of the words are taken from the Yr 5/6 spelling bee list, which is in your homework diary. Some of the words have adjectives that have been formed either by adding a ‘tious’ suffix or by adding a ‘cious’ suffix. Think carefully about which suffix you need to add: is it ‘tious’ or ‘cious’? These words were all included in work set last week. If you missed this, please go to week 6 and check it out.

Keep your tables ticking over by doing an online tables test . We usually do 80 questions division and multiplication up to 12 times table. If you prefer, you can print off the test here and do it on paper. Remember to set a timer to record your time. Did you beat last week’s time and score?

In maths this week we will be looking at finding the volume and surface area of cuboids. Watch this Powerpoint to find the volume of different shapes by counting the cubes. Think carefully, visualise the parts of the shape that you can’t see to work out the total number of cubes used. Think about the layers of cubes used to make the cuboids.

Watch this video and this video to remind yourself how to find the volume of a cuboid. In class we talked about the formula: Length x width x height. This video refers to the width as the breadth but it is talking about the same dimension. Complete this sheet to test your knowledge about working out the volume of a cuboid. The answers are included at the end.
After you have watched the videos and done the activities on volume and surface area, go to Accelerated Maths, homework assignment book, and do the diagnostic test on finding the surface area of a cuboid and working out the volume of shapes from diagrams.

Last week, we had an introduction to our topic on World religions and you were asked to fill out a table on religious books, symbols, festivals, places of worship and important people. If you didn’t do this overview, go back to week 6 (see below) and fill in this chart.
This week, we will be focusing on what many believe to be the oldest major religion in the world: Hinduism. Look at your chart to find out the basic knowledge facts associated with Hinduism. Watch this video about Vandana who is a practising Hindu. As you watch the video, keep pausing it, to ask yourself what similarities the Hindu religion has to any other religions you know about and also, what is different? For instance, near the beginning of the video, Vandana talks about doing her puja (prayers) three times a day. As she prays, she has in front of her images of the different gods she is praying to. How does the way she prays compare to the way you know followers of other religions pray? Read the revise notes and then do the online test to see how much you have learned.

Learn more about Hinduism. Go to Espresso and put in Hinduism into the search bar at the top right hand side of the screen. You will find videos to watch, fact files to read and quizzes to do! This sheet will help you to think about the concept of reincarnation which is central to the Hindu religion. This sheet will help you to think about how Hindus believe that the God Brahmin has many different characteristics which are represented by different gods. Finally, this sheet will help you to find out more about Puja and how this is used to stimulate all five senses. You may choose to do all three or pick the sheet which most interests you.

History
This week, I listened to this podcast on the radio. It is all about the Battle of Hastings and mentions the Vikings and the Normans. It reminded me so strongly of all the wonderful work you did in our Story of the English Language topic, that I just had to share it with you. Listen very carefully, because there will a quiz at the end of it.
Computing - coding
Log on to Purple Mash as a Yr 5 or Yr 6 and go to 2 Code and click on Free Code-Gibbon level. This allows you to code your own computer program To get started, click on the green arrow in the top left hand corner. This will take you to an instruction video. Try out different combinations of code instructions and create something to entertain your family.

In last week's video, Ellie described how people in her area are creating a wonderful art installation along the pathway by painting stones they have found. Here is a picture of the path so far. Perhaps you can find a stone in your area and decorate it.

If you missed it in week 5, go to our music and dance page and take a dance class with Orit! Do the warm up first and then have fun dancing 'at the hop!' This is a dance you learned with Orit in school. Dance along and see if you can remember all the steps.
