Week 2

Homework for week beginning: 27th April

Hello Yr 5 and 6. I hope you are all safe and well.

I have been looking at all the online sites and it is good to see more of you doing the work that has been set. However, some children still haven’t logged on and completed any tasks. Don’t let your brains rust; get online and start working! If you are having any problems remembering your log in details or would like any help with the activities just email me: yr5.6@swbschool.net

A lot of work is set on Accelerated Maths (homework assignment book). For more maths activities remember to use Mathletics.

Reading: Remember to read every day! I have checked on Accelerated Reading and only 7 children have done a quiz since our school closed. Aim to read a book this week and complete a quiz.

Don’t forget to keep logging into Spag.com too.

Keep doing your 10 minute a day Sat Buster tests and your reading comprehension exercises (3 per week) In addition to all these here are this week’s activities. If printing off is a problem, don’t worry, just write your answers on a separate piece of paper.

Literacy: In Literacy this week we will be looking at the life story (biography) of Helen Keller who was another young girl, like Malala, who had to overcome hardship and adversity to gain an education and reach her full potential. Complete the comprehension. There are three levels of difficulty. Work your way through all three or choose your difficulty. Remember to challenge yourself! The answers are provided for you to mark your own work.

Writing: For a short writing task this week, I would like you to think about somebody you admire. Do some research on that person and set out a Biographical Timeline of key events in their life story. The Ducksters website may help you. I would love to see which famous person you have chosen to write about - why don't you email me your work!

Chapters 1 to 5 Lion Witch and Wardrobe.docx

As a class reader, I have chosen a book which most of you will have heard of: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe I have given you the first five chapters. Read a chapter per day......

TL TW TW Vocab and RC Questions.pdf

.......... and then answer the questions on that chapter. If you do the comprehension for each chapter, hopefully when we have completed the book you can score well on the Accelerated Reading quiz for that book and earn 6 points!

Mathematics: I expect you have finished all your arithmetic papers now. Do the new arithmetic paper and then afterwards check your answers which are at the end of the paper. Try to beat your score from last week.

Keep your tables ticking over by doing an online tables test . We usually do 80 questions division and multiplication up to 12 times table.

Watch the video to help you revise work we have done on converting metric units of length and then complete the diagnostic test on Accelerated Maths.

Science: Go to Espresso Then click on KS2 Science, investigating change. Watch the videos in the real life science section and complete the activity on gases, liquids and solids. Now complete the work sheet. If you are unable to print off, draw two columns and write in the materials in either the reversible or irreversible column.

History Our IPC topic this term is Rulers and Government. One particular style of government is called a Monarchy where power lies with a ruling king or queen and they have the absolute authority in the country. Listen to this podcast to learn more about a time when England had a monarchy and what happened. Listen very carefully as there will be a quiz at the end.

P.E. Have you been doing your Joe Wick’s exercises? I have just done this workout and barely have the energy to type! Keep up the exercise!

Art: I hope you managed to complete the video last week on practising basic drawing skills because this week is part two and using your skills to draw an object.
