Hello, Yr 5 and 6!
It’s lovely to be able to communicate with you through our new school website. We have missed you all!
If you have any problems with any of the homework, or if you would like to let us know how you’re getting on with the activities send an email to year5.6@swbschool.net
I expect you are all busy working your way through all the 10minute Sat Buster and Reading Comprehension books we sent home four weeks ago. Keep doing these! Three exercises a week should be good. You also went home with five arithmetic tests. If, as instructed, you have done one of these per week, then you will be on the final test this week.
I have been keeping track of all the wonderful work some of you have been doing online using the sites: Accelerated Reading, Accelerated Maths, Mathletics and Spag.com. I look at your results and progress every day and set new work, so please keep visiting these sites.
As well as all this, every week, Ellie and I will post more ideas for work on this site for you to complete at home. This should help us all to keep the rust from our brains so that when we return to school we will be ready to learn!
Open up Espresso and go to Maths, KS2 and click on 2D shapes (lower). Watch the videos on triangles and quadrilaterals. Do the triangles and quadrilateral activity. Next, go to 2D shape (upper) and watch the video on angles in a triangle and angles in a quadrilateral. Try the activity properties of shapes. After this, complete the diagnostic test which is assigned in the Yr 5 or Yr 6 Homework book on Accelerated Maths.
Over the next two weeks we will be looking at biography and autobiography. A biography is the life story of someone written by somebody else whereas an autobiography is a self-written life story. Download the reading comprehension on Malala Yousafzai here. If you can print this, do so and fill in the answers. If you can’t print off, just jot down your answers on a piece of paper. The answers are included. After you have finished, check your answers and give yourself a score! There are three levels to the comprehension. You may choose your level. Remember to challenge yourself!
Chat with your family about your own life story. Ask them about when you were born. What kind of a baby or toddler you were. Can they remember any funny or interesting stories about you? Who are your extended family? What is your heritage? After you have interviewed your family, write the first two paragraphs of your own autobiography.
Open up Espresso again and go to English KS2 Grammar and complete the two quizzes on conjunctions and clauses. Then complete the mini test on subordinate clauses here.
Art: For the next two weeks we are going back to basics and trying to learn the golden rules of being able to draw. This video is very helpful. Have a go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=OezMavBqWXc&feature=youtu.be
Stay safe, keep well, work hard and play hard! We will be back with some new activities for you next Monday, 27th April.

Because we are all spending so much time inside and are generally less active, it’s important to try to stay fit and healthy by exercising. Try to do a Joe Wicks exercise routine at least three times a week. Here is his work out from Friday 17th April – dressing up as Scooby Doo is optional! To find more Joe Wicks videos go to YouTube and search for P.E. with Joe Wicks. If your legs ache the next day (like mine and Ellie’s did) remember, that’s a good thing.
