PLEASE ASK YOUR PARENTS BEFORE YOU GO ONLINE
AND ASK THEM TO CHECK WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
Monday 4th May 2020 (Star Wars Day! May the fourth be with you!)
Hello all!
I hope you enjoy this week’s tasks :-) Remember to keep doing your online tasks too : AR, AM, Maths Facts, Mathletics and Education City.
Don't forget to share your work with me !
June
Click here for the answers to last week’s RAPS and IPC Timeline tasks.
1. Spellings – We’re still looking at plural rules. This week it’s f to ves. Ask someone to read this week’s spellings and test you on them, do it every day and ask someone to test you on Friday. Please try the Education City plurals tasks to help understand the different rules.
2. SPAG – This week we’re looking at extended noun phrases, I think you’ll like this. (Here are some notes for parents if you’d like them).
Look through this PowerPoint presentation. Then complete one, or more, of these worksheets: Titanic, Vikings, Under the sea and various.
3. Journal – I’d like you to do something quite different this week… I’d like you to write a journal as if you were a Stone Age child!
Don’t worry, it’ll be easy peasy after you’ve listened to ‘Now Press Play’! Be careful, mind the furniture and the family as you act this out!
4. Reading/Writing/IPC - Read Chapter 2 of ‘Blast to the past’. This week there is a short cloze exercise but your main writing task is to research and record facts on Mammoths! Amazing mammoths!
Watch the video from the Natural History Museum and make some notes. Next watch the video form the SciShow Kids websiteand make some notes. If you can do more research that’s great too. Then present your facts on the Facts About Mammoths worksheet and don’t forget, if you can, please share it with me!
You could watch the movie Ice Age too! Check with mum and dad first though! Sid is so funny! And while you’re watching it why not make the Mammoth model in the Art section below! :-)
If you’d like to do more activities related to Chapter 2, use this link.
5. Reading – please keep reading your own books and your AR books (and take tests!). Look at last week’s page for other reading resources.
1. Speed Trial - on the website timestable.me.uk use the online times tables tests, or if possible, print off the practice you know you need. Remember to use 'Hit the button' on Topmarks too :-)
2. Accelerated Maths - there will always be work waiting for you (exercise, test, practice in both class and group). If you are finding it tricky, you could use the BBC Bitesize guides, they’re usually very good.
3. Mathletics and Education City - there will always be work waiting for you, I try to set only 4-5 activities so you should be able to access Mathletics Live too.
4. Puzzles - This week the puzzle is called Trains and instead of problem solving, there’s some work on equivalent fractions.
5. Equivalent fractions
First, have a look at this fraction wall. Ask yourself what is the same as (or equivalent to) one third? Two thirds? Four fifths etc. Then watch this little video.
Now, have a look at this PowerPoint presentation, use it like a quiz.
You should be fine tackling these worksheets now. Do as many as you can. You can always watch the videos again to help. Good luck!
Check your answers here.
1. See the Literacy section 4, for a research task on Mammoths, but also look at this diagram to show how they’re related to elephants!
2. Education City - there will always be work waiting for you on this site. I've added some more work on Electricity for those of you who have completed everything so far! If you have…well done you! Use the BBC Bitesize guides for extra information.
1. We are going to look at two famous and fascinating Stone Age sites this week, but first I thought you might like to watch these videos about these Stone Age families, they’re really good.
Family 1: A Day in the Life of a 10 year old in Ancient Britain
Family 2: The Middle Stone Age
Family 2: Life in the New Stone Age
2. The two sites we’re looking at this week are Skara Brae and Stonehenge.
First, look at this PowerPoint presentation all about Skara Brae. then take a tour of Skara Brae. I’d love to go there! Next, try the PowerPointQuiz. Good luck!
Now, here's a Skara Brae Fact File with a short Reading Comprehension for you to do .
3. The second famous site we are going to look at is Stonehenge.
Let’s start with this video: 'How was Stonehenge created?'
The same website, English Heritage, has a lot of information about Stonehenge. Here is another video that gives you 360 degrees view (use the arrows on your keyboard).
Next, look at the PowerPoint below for more information and the second PowerPoint which has a quiz… have a go!
Finally, here is a Stonehenge Fact File with a short Reading Comprehension for you.
Please let me know how you get on with the quiz and the worksheet by using the sharing page!
This week try to make a model of Stonehenge… not life-size! Use this link for paper craft Stonehenge, or if you have some white or grey plastercine or magic clay, make tiny stones to stand on the site. Don’t forget to take a photo of it and share it with me!
There is also a papercraft Mammoth! Again, don’t forget, if you can, take a photo of what you make and share it with me. (Instructions for making paper craft Mammoth
If you want to do some Cave Painting drawings please look at Week 2. You don't need to print anything for that. I've seen some that you've made and they're great!
Keep playing LightBot and Cargo-Bot if you can.
Here is the next episode of Think like a coder if you’d like to learn how to… think like a coder!
Finally, have a look at Childnet’s ‘The Adventures of Kara, Winston and the SMART crew’ videos about staying safe on line. This week the Chapter 1: What should you accept?
See Week 2 for suggestions and links to websites.
If you enjoyed reading Kensuke’s Kingdom, you might like to complete the storyboard in Week 2, and don’t forget to take a test!
