Hello Year 3! I hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. I'm guessing that you have noticed that the image below isn't one of Tony's amazing special effects... it really is me, June, your Year 4 teacher- neighbour! I'll be looking after your Home Learning page for the moment as Tony is one of the staff working back at SWB with the Year 6 children and children of key workers. But don't worry, Tony will still be checking your emails so please keep sharing your work. You may also notice that this page looks a little different, I hope you still like it.
Literacy
SPELLING
This week's spelling list is a mixture of words from the Year 3 Spelling Bee and the Year 4 Spelling Bee. I will read out the list, you write the words down, then please check your spellings here. Practice during the week and aim to beat your score on Friday. Good luck!

Each week we will look at a short film about an imaginary inventor or invention. This week, the film is Cloudy Lesson. Watch it a couple of times, then please look at this worksheet.*
I'd like you to retell the story of Cloudy Lesson by writing a description for each image. Two or three sentences for each image should be enough and please remember to start every sentence with a capital letter and finish with a full stop. I look forward to reading your stories.

Times Tables
Use this website timestables.me.uk to generate speed quizzes - remember 60 questions (multiple & divide) with a 6 minute time cap – aim to get more accurate and faster over the week! FOCUS ON THE TIMES TABLES AND INVERSES YOU KNOW YOU NEED. Get an adult/older sibling to test you at the start and end of each week. Don’t worry if you can’t print out worksheets, just use paper or use the interactive quizes.
Time
We will continue to look at time this week but will be focusing on analogue and digital time equivalents. Please start by watching this video and the PowerPoint.
Then, please complete the two sets of worksheets below. Print these worksheets if you can, otherwise just write the answers out on paper. Please complete as many as you can and let us know how you get on. The answers are included - no peeking please!
Finally, please complete your AM class exercise which has questions on telling the time. (If you have an unfinished exercise please do that first.) When you finish your class exercise, please work on any exercise you might have in your group, then any test, diagnostic test and practice. Thank you.

1. So far in this topic, we have looked at a couple of inventors who are very well known. This week we are going to find out about some inventors who are not so well known.
First, several Victorian inventors... Margaret E. Knight, George Washington Carver and William Henry Fox Talbot.
Please read the information sheets about them, then answer the questions here.
When you've finished you can check your answers.

Next, for more ingenious inventors, here is a link to the Horrible Histories - Ingenious Inventors episode. It's a whole programme so it is quite long but when you have watched it please take the quiz below. Good luck!
3. If you would like to do your own research on one of the inventors mentioned in Ingenious Inventors, please feel free to use the worksheet on the right. Name the inventor, then add six facts about them and include any relevant drawings or illustrations. Or, if possible, make your own poster about them using Pic Collage. Or, you could use PowerPoint or Keynote to make your own short presentation about them! Don't forget to share which ever one you choose to do. Good luck!

Be imaginative!
1. I hope you have started thinking about your own invention. You don’t have to actually make it, a design drawing will do! Please share your design by the end of term, it would be great to display a collection of them!
Read and watch all the information in this IPC section and start planning your own design. It could be something to use at home, at school, something that could change the world?! You can use the squared paper here to draw your invention design but any paper will do. If you’ve got lots of ideas maybe design and share a different invention every week!
To help inspire you, here's a clip from a show where school children shared their ideas on tv, Brilliant Kid Inventors! Which one do you like best?
There is also a clip below from a BBC2 programme called Inside the Factory, which I always find strangely fascinating! Look at how quickly the bread is bagged!
And for fun... look at this creation by Joseph Herscher called 'The Lunch Feeder'. His machines use cause and effect to do a simple task in a very complicated way. Please don't do anything like this at home without permission! If you like it have a look at the videos in Year 4 Week 5 and Week 6... 'How to pass the salt and pepper while social distancing'! I hope they all amuse and inspire you :-)
Get creative!
2. Each week there will be a creative craft challenge. This week the challenge is toilet rolls! What could you make out of a toilet roll?

Our new science topic 'Magnets, springs & force' is now live on Education City. You need to get 80% before you can progress to the next level.
Tony has been doing these 'Kitchen Science' activities, at home, with his children. You might be able to do some of them too. They're great fun and you can do most of them with things you'll have in the kitchen. Make sure you get adult help.

Help us create a huge rainbow artwork as a tribute to our amazing NHS and care staff.
Each year group has been assigned a colour. Our colour (Year 3) is GREEN. The challenge is to create a piece of artwork using only GREEN. The idea is, once we get back to school, we will create a huge rainbow collage using all our artworks. You could make a heart shape or draw around your hand; in fact you can create anything you want, but ONLY use the colour GREEN. Don't leave any white spaces as it will spoil the effect! Get creative, share them with me and keep the original safe for when we get back to school.
Reading - Don't forget you can download books from the Idea Store online.
No doubt, Tower Hamlets will be launching their own 'Summer Reading Challenge' soon, but as you're stuck at home and if fancy getting involved in this one too; get an adult to sign you up.
FACT OR FICTION? Always get your news from a reliable source. The Week Junior, BBC Newsround and Sky News - FYI are trusted sources. Check out the sites, there's plenty to keep you informed and entertained.
If you're desperate for more science and nature, Earth School is an amazing resource. Do you want to put your coding skills to the test. Try the Games Designer Club, you'll need an adult to sign you up.
