Hello everyone,
I hope you’re keeping safe and well?
Thank you to everybody who’s sharing examples of their work with me – well done and keep it coming – it really does brighten up my day. Hopefully, you’ll be able to see some of it elsewhere on this page or in the Gallery (off the homepage).
Keep up with AMaths; I will add more work when you’ve completed what you have on there. Also, it’s brilliant so see some of you flying through AR quizzes. If you haven’t done one for a while, please try this week. Remember, to join the Idea Store online and you can download 1000s of free eBooks (loads of AR), magazines, movies and music – it’s brilliant.
Keep checking out all the other online resources such as Mathletics and Education City. There are plenty of great activities on that will support the work on this website.
Have a great week…
Tony.
This week we are continuing with fractions. If you haven’t done the Oak National Academy lessons and activities, start there.
Football fans will particularly enjoy the ‘Maths of the Day’ challenge! Don't forget there are AMaths objectives on fractions waiting for you.
Don't forget the Khan Academy too.
The action is heating up in Chapter 3 of Blast to the Past… will our friends escape?!! Continue the story here. Remember you don’t need to print, you can read it straight from the screen.
Writing – Option 1 – Imagine you are one of the Shadows, write your own account of what happened when you went out hunting for woolly mammoths and met some strange-looking children from the future.
Option 2 – Think of another piece of modern technology or gadget that would have alarmed a Stone Age person. You might want to discuss your ideas with a member of your family first. Then write the name of the technology and an explanation of why a Stone Age person would be afraid of it.
Extra – How do you think Stone Age children spent their time? Make a list of the main differences between your daily life and that of a Stone Age child.
Journal – Moving away from the Stone Age… last Friday (8th May) was an incredibly important day in the history of this country and the world.
Do you know what it was? What is this day called? Why is it so important?
Ask an adult (or older sibling) to help you research this and then write down any thoughts you have. Can you see any parallels (things that are the same) between what is happening now and what people went through during WWII? These fact sheet will help.
Spellings – This week’s spellings are ‘Compound words’. First use this PowerPoint, then watch the video and practice the words (no peeking!). Finally, use the practice sheet to check your answers. Practice during the week and aim to beat your score on Friday.
Reading – As a child, one of my favourite books was ‘Stig of the Dump’ by Clive King. It's about a Stone Age boy who somehow has ended up in modern times. You can download it from the Idea Store.
In the 1980s (ancient history, but I was your age!), they made a TV series of it. It takes me back!
Watch it here. All five episodes are on You Tube. They remade it more recently and I believe that version is on Amazon Prime (if you have it).
This week we move onto the Bronze Age.
Start with Espresso, search ‘bronze age’ and choose the top option. You can now watch the 'Bronze Age’ video.
Explore life in Bronze Age Britain with this beautiful animation and other resources below.
Now use this Bronze Age research map to help you record your findings. Don't worry if you can't print. Write and draw your ideas on paper.
Extra Activity – Can you write instructions on how to make bronze? What will you need and what 'ingredients' are required? These will help.
Please continue with Solids & liquids on Education City. BIG SHOUT OUT to Muhamed and Alice for having a go at these!!!
For extra information and activities. Check BBC Bite Size:
REMEMBER: Matter usually exists in one of three states or phases. It can be a solid, liquid, or gas. The seat and desk you are working at is a solid, the water you drink is a liquid, and the air around us is a gas.
Did you watch and try the amazing Pete McKee workshop lessons? I did, take a look at my first efforts. The only way is up!!!
PLEASE share yours with me. Fingers crossed, more next week when we learn to add bodies to our characters.
Want some extra challenges for you and your family?!!
Reggie Yates showcases some of the ways you can keep yourself entertained and inspired online.
Thanks to Sarah and Umayr for sharing some of their work.
Keep an eye out next week for our very special NHS Rainbow art project.
