Hi guys,
I hope you’re all safe and well? How did you get on last week?
Please follow the activities, lessons & structure on this website, as best as you can, as this is what we would be doing in school right now.
Keep using the books you took home too and, of course, AR, AMaths, Mathletics and Education City as they will all support your learning.
I had the pleasure of talking to some of you (and your parents) this week, I intend to ring you all ASAP. I can’t wait to hear your voices and have a little chat!
Continue with length and perimeter this week. Watch this video and complete the activities first:
Once you have done those, draw 5 random/different sized rectangles and calculate the perimeter in centimetres and then millimetres. Finally, can you work out the perimeter of your bedroom? Use a tape measure if you have one; otherwise just count your steps (you might need adult help for this).
Want to take it one step further..? Can you work out the relationship between area and perimeter?
Challenge: Draw a floor plan of your entire home and calculate the perimeter of all the rooms. Can you work out the area of this space?
You also have some activities related to this in Education City and Mathletics. If you haven’t done these yet, please do (remember, all your log-in details are in the front of your diary).
Times tables – use this website timestables.me.uk to generate speed quizzes - remember 60 questions (multiple & divide) with a 6 minute time cap – aim to get more accurate and faster over the week! FOCUS ON THE TIMES TABLES AND INVERSES YOU KNOW YOU NEED. Get an adult/older sibling to test you at the start and end of each week. Don’t worry if you can’t print out worksheets, just use paper.
First of all, read chapter one of ‘Blast to the Past’. You can print this or just read the PDF file from your screen. After that, when the story is still fresh, complete this activity. If you can’t print, write it into a book. There are loads of fun, extra activities here to keep you busy. Feel free to do them all!
Journal Writing - imagine you are a Stone Age Child. What would a normal week look like to you? What would you do? Where would you go?
Tell me all about what you have been doing, where have you been and what have you seen? Give as much detail as you can, sharing what you have learnt about this period of time.,
Spellings – This week’s spellings are ‘more apostrophes’. Use these videos and practice sheet to assist you. It will help if you rewatch this video first: Introduction to the apostrophe.
Practice during the week and aim to beat your score on Friday.
Reading – It is so important to read everyday. Make sure you do AR quizzes on all the books you took home, plus any others you might have read.
If you are not a member already, join the Idea Store for free. They have 1000s of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, films and music available, without even leaving the house. An adult will need to sign you up. https://www.ideastore.co.uk/about-us-join-today
Don’t forget there’s a new issue of Week Junior every week.
Audible have some brilliant, free, audiobooks including Harry Potter. Some of these have AR quizzes too.
Our new topic is ‘Scavengers and Settlers – Early Man to the Iron Age’. Each week we’ll look at a different period of this time, starting with the Mesolithic (or the Middle Stone Age).
Click here for Espresso and then search for "Stone Age" and click on the top link.
Have a look at these for some extra information.
Ever fancied becoming a hunter-gatherer? Yes... then try these activities. No..? Give them a go anyway!!!
Again, you may to to improvise (use what you can) if you can't print. Have fun with it, play with parents & siblings.
Don’t forget to check out Education City for science. Last week, I published fresh activities on our new topic ‘Solid and Liquids’. Please check them out.
Can anyone guess who sent me this wonderful journal entry?
