Literacy
Daily Journal/Diary - Grammar:
Keep a daily Journal/Diary. Write about your day. What you did you do? For example, did you go to the shops or the park, walk along the canal. What you can see out of the window. What can you see in your immediate environment? For example, can you see the canal? Can you see the park? Can you see the shops?
Your grammar lesson this week will explore the use of adjectives – describing words.
For example: I saw an enormous sea gull in the park.
I can see a beautiful green tree in the park.

Reading:
Your reading lesson this week is to learn a poem by heart. Then you can do the fun Reading Comprehension below. As you know children one of my favourite poems is The Owl and the Pussy Cat by Edward Lear.
Please look at the following video as many times as it takes for you to learn all the words.
You can do this by writing the words down for yourselves.
When you think you know the words by heart, recite them to your family.
Draw your own illustration by copying the front cover of the book.
You can send me your drawings and you could be a STAR OF THE WEEK on our school website!

The opposite of dividing is multiplying.
This week we are learning about FRACTIONS. When we talk about fractions we are really talking about division.
Examples:
If I ask you to cut your pizza equally in half (1/2) what am I actually asking you to do? I am asking you to divide your pizza equally by 2.
If I ask you to cut your pizza equally into quarters (1/4) I am asking you to divide your pizza by 4.
If I ask you to cut your pizza equally into thirds (1/3) I am asking you to divide your pizza by 3.
Please complete these worksheets attached on fractions (attached).
Some of these worksheets are more difficult than others.
Please concentrate on halves (1/2); quarters (1/4) and thirds (1/3).
Ask your mummy or daddy and your siblings to help you.
I have attached an answer booklet so that you can check your work.
Remember children we have learnt about fractions already e.g. sharing a packet of sweets equally with your friends; cutting birthday cakes; when we mark our spelling tests on Fridays out of 12 by writing the number of correct spellings over 12. For example, if you got half of your spellings right you would write 6/12.

Our environment is all around us. Please answer the following questions on a piece of paper and discuss them with your family.

What does the local environment provide us with? Please make a list. Think of all the things you use in Tower Hamlets, your local environment.
Why do we need shops?
What is your favourite local shop and why?
Geography
Our topic is: Our World – The Environment
What do you think grows in your local environment including along the canal, Mile End Park and the River Thames?
In all of these environments you will see plants and trees. Let’s explore further how plants grow and how they help our environment.
What we have learned:
Plants help people and animals to live.
Plants provide food for people and animals to eat.
Plants make oxygen.
All people and animals need oxygen to breathe.
Plants are living things.
Plants need air, sunlight and water.
Plants make their own food.
Plants reproduce through seeds.
There are many different sorts of plants including flowers, cereals, and potatoes. Some grow in soil and some grow in water like rice.
