Curriculum statement

PE and Games at Borlase

We want PE to be a subject that teaches students a huge amount of skills, morals and qualities that will benefit them in their present life but also help to develop those individuals for their future.

It is important that students understand the benefits of engagement and enjoyment in sport and PE and the benefit to everyone’s physical, social and mental well being. Students will develop their ability to evaluate situations effectively, become someone who makes good, positive decisions and someone who is not afraid to have a go as these can be moments of learning.

The PE and Games Curriculum

We want all students to experience a broad and varied curriculum, through the delivery by passionate PE and Sport teachers / coaches. We want you to develop as sportsmen and women, at their own rate but have an exposure to sports and activities that help to develop physical literacy, strategic awareness, social opportunity and the chance to be fit and healthy.

We currently offer a broad and varied curriculum across KS3 and KS4. We also offer a focused and developing extra curricular programme that gives students an opportunity to represent the school in a range of sports and gain experience in a number of emerging activities.

We would like to offer more non-traditional activities both within and beyond the curriculum, eg OAA/yoga/martial arts. This will be facilitated through a series of option pathways to mirror individual preferences and lifelong participation choices.

We look to introduce students to a broad and varied curriculum when they start at Borlase, which we then build on through the year. Athletes of all abilities and levels of experience are catered for and supported in their Physical Education journey.

In KS3 PE and Games

We look to build confidence in being active, through developing physical literacy. We want students to enjoy their PE and Sport, not creating specialists in specific sports but students who are developing as healthy, active individuals. The curriculum content builds year on year on prior learning to help students progress in skills, attributes, confidence and experiences. Activity sequencing is planned to develop in complexity, difficulty and challenge across the different years.

In KS4 PE and Games

We look to continue to develop a range of experiences for all individuals in PE and Sport. The focus is on optimising opportunity, variety and activity levels through a range of traditional and non-traditional activities.
