PRACTICAL PERFORMANCES
Identify from the practical sport options (P37 onwards) which one sport you are likely to use as your practical assessments. By the end of the course you will need to provide video evidence of you in a fully competitive situation - a match or performance.
If you choose a summer sport, you can start to gather this footage over the summer. Your videos should be a continuous recording of the whole game/performance - no editing, no stopping the filming. As mentioned on the sixth form induction day, filming can be at any point in the course but we recommend collecting some competitive footage as soon as possible to allow for feedback from staff and to ensure there is footage available in the unfortunate of serious injury.
THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE
Over the summer there are a number of world / international sporting events. Make sure you pay attention to:
The huge variety of sports on show, try to pick up basic information about the structure, skills and tactics for a wide variety of sports, particularly those you are currently less familiar with.
Use news sources to follow articles relating to these events. How does the news link the sports event with: politics, injury, funding and sponsorship, barriers to participation and social stereotypes etc. Please bring to your lessons in the first week examples interesting news you have come across over the summer.
