It is important that all students are confident that they can make an effective, purposeful start to their A level courses in September 2025. All departments have been asked to outline preparatory work that students should complete over the summer.
There are two elements of preparatory work that students must complete before joining in September:
1) Set Reading:
A Streetcar Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams (Drama) - as it is a script, you can read or watch this
The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood (Prose)
Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley (Prose)
The baseline tests you complete in your first lesson will rely on you having read these texts.
2) Analysis:
Read the poem 'Eat Me' by Patience Agbabi and answer the essay question below. Bring your essay to your first lesson in September:
How does Agbabi present ideas about power in 'Eat Me'?
Completing this work is a minimum expectation and will aid you significantly in your studies.
Below is a recommended reading list to aid with your projects and to enhance your preparation for the A-level course.
