You may choose a dog, bunny, cat, mouse or any animal you would like to draw for this project!
Look for the read-along book, "Big Dog, Little Dog" at the bottom of this assignment! Enjoy!
The first step is the drawing:
Draw your dog/animal: Start with the crown, then draw the shape of the face, adding ears, the body, and finally the details of the face. Draw your animal in pencil first so you can plan your drawing. You might also have your animal sit on a fancy pillow or mat in your drawing.
Coloring/Painting: After the drawing is complete, begin adding color with crayons/colored pencils/paints. Make sure to add browns, black, grey, golden yellow, white and black and any other color that makes up your animal.
If you choose to paint - use short, smooth brush strokes. When dry, if you'd like, you may add squiggles and short lines with a darker color for the“hair” which will make it look real. This will give each dog a unique look.
Painting the crown and background: Once the dog is painted, you can now paint the crown (or crown of flowers) and the background. You can even add some glitter and rhinestones! Keep the background color simple.
The final step is the most important one for letting the dog be the star of the painting….black lines! Trace over your pencil lines you made with a dark crayon or paint. This will make your artwork stand out!
Supplies:
... royal pillow for dog to sit on ...
Hope you like this book as much as I do...

I thought you might like to listen to this read-along book about how you are like no other....special, indeed!
1. Cut your colored cardstock paper in half the long way. Cut a triangle shape out of the end of one of the pieces and set the paper scrap aside.
2. Bend the other paper strip so the ends touch each other but don’t make a folded crease in the paper. Cut a triangle shape out of the bent side of the paper. You’ll end up with a diamond shape. Cut the diamond in half to get two separate triangles.
3. Use your markers to draw lines on the triangles to look like fish fins. Turn the larger triangle over and draw lines on the back too.
4. Bend the large rectangle piece in half again. Slide the large triangle inside the back of the rectangle and place three staples to close the paper together in the middle and two ends.
5. Glue a large googly eye on each side of the fish face.
6. Glue the two smaller triangle fins on the sides of the fish. Bend the outside of the fins out slightly so they sit off of the fish a little adding to the two dimensional look.
7. Add tacky glue to the bottom half of the paper fish craft. Sprinkle the tacky glue with sequins or anything you'd like. Turn the paper fish craft over and add more tacky glue and sequins to the other side. Allow the glue to dry. Happy swimming!
Hello kindergartners!
I am hoping you are all doing great these days and enjoying the warm sunshine outside like I am!
I thought you might like this colorful paper fish craft that is amazingly simple to create. The bend in the paper allows the fish to stand up giving it an awesome look. Have lots of fun with your ocean fish and please share your art with me through pictures at my email:
Enjoy this story of Gilbert the Goldfish...
Hi kindergartners!
I am thinking about you and remembering each of you with a smile! I hope you are having fun in art these days! Many of you have sent me such terrific artwork you are creating at home. It is magnificent! Keep using your sweet imaginations to express yourself through art!
This is a very fun project creating textural rubbings using objects you find around your house.
Some suggestions for the rubbings are listed below:
- different bottom of sneakers rubbing with added design with marker -
- coin rubbings cut out and pasted with drawing on one piece of artwork - glued on newspaper
- found object rubbing with crayon -
Coloring is done in colored pencil.
With all these windy days we have been having, I thought it would be fun to draw a picture like we were being blown upward into the sky!
Coloring is done in watercolor.

*Adult supervision is necessary on this project with the cutout circles for your child's animal creation. Thank you for your help!
One of the best ways to get your little one interested in art is to let them create things that they love. Puppet crafts are a favorite among young students. Try these easy finger puppet crafts to make with ordinary items from your home.
This project is always a favorite of mine! I enjoyed making these with my children years ago watching the little animals they created "come to life" once they put their fingers through the cut holes for legs or even a trunk!
Art Assignment:
I thought you'd like to see this puppet show based on the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." Two young girls created this show aged nine and eleven! Enjoy...
Hello! I thought you may like this activity that can you can make with your family and have fun with after!
This homemade playdough recipe is soft, lasts a long time, doesn’t stain little hands, and uses common ingredients you probably already have. Plus it is also non-toxic.
Plus it’s super quick and easy to make (you can make a batch in about 5 minutes) and less expensive than buying ready made playdough.
Homemade play dough is easy to make and store. Just drop it in a ziploc bag and it will last for months.
Hello! I'd like to share with you some beautiful art I received from the Seed Art project.
Kindergarten artist, Rileigh H. created this wonderful mandala gathering pieces of nature in her own backyard.
Look at the colors and pattern she created with all she found.
She titled her art, "The Prettiest Little Sunflower on Earth."
I agree, it is! Thank you, Rileigh!
This project is a dream come true for all you "dino-lovers!"
While listening to the story, "If the Dinosaurs Came Back," please keep in mind what it would really be like if they shared the land with us!

Hello, Kindergarten students!
I have been thinking of all of you these days while we are not at school together. I hope you are each using your imaginations at home creating wonderful art just like you do in art class!
I am excited to share this video with you about the artist Mondrian we have been studying! The jazz musician explains how the artwork is actually like a musical piece. Instead of notes to create the music, Mondrian used colored squares, just like you did in your own art!
I hope you enjoy this little video as much as I did!
