Kindergarten: Pinch Pot Bowls
1.Students roll their pack of Model Magic into a uniform sphere (ball)
2.Students push their thumb into the center of the ball without going through completely and then begin to pinch until a bowl is formed. If students want a specific shape (Heart, triangle, ect.) they shape it before allowing it to dry.
3. After allowing to dry, students paint their pinch pot bowl.
First Grade: Pout Pout Fish
Step 1: With one package of model magic make a pinch pot that is flat on one side so it can stand up. Use a piece of paper towel and wad it up to put in the pinch pot mouth to hold it open while you work on it.
Step 2: Using your second package of model magic, grab 2 pieces about the size of peanut m&ms, to roll into balls. These will be the eyes and you will attach them to the top of your pinch pot. Use a pencil to make a dot in each eye.
Step 3: Divide up the rest of the clay. Grab one piece about the size of a peanut m&m, set it aside, and divide the rest into two even pieces. Using the two even pieces make a ball with each and flatten them. Cut a slit in one so it looks like Pacman and cut the other one in half completely. The one that looks like Pacman will be formed into the tail and added to the back of the pinch pot. The piece that was cut completely in half will become fins and get attached to each side of the pinch pot. The very last piece that was the size of a peanut m&m will be the back fin and can be shaped however you want.
Step 4: After your Model Magic is dry, pick 3 colors of paint to paint your fish. Get these three colors and white/black (for the eyes) then paint your fish. When the paint is dry, use a metallic sharpie to add patterns to the fins and tail
Second Grade: Frog or Turtle on a lily pad
Use cardboard or cardstock to create a lily pad for your base. Make sure to put your name on it.
Use Model Magic to create a turtle or frog to sit on your lily pad.
If you have Model Magic left you can make a flower or a bug to add to your sculpture.
Third Grade: Underwater creature with base
Create a BASE for your sculpture (Make sure your name is on the bottom) A medium size ball works nicely if you smash the bottom to flatten so it can stand.
Stick pipe cleaners and straw pieces of various colors into the model magic to create seaweed, coral, etc.
Get one support piece (tooth pick, wood piece, or skewer) and stick it somewhere toward the center to support your underwater creature
Create an underwater creature (ex. Dolphin, sea turtle, fish, shark, jellyfish, etc)
Place your creature onto the support piece
Allow to dry solid and paint if desired.
Fourth Grade: Model Magic Dragon Eye
