Q: Do I need to create an OLS login?

A: No, you do not need to create an OLS login, as our 6th-12th grade students will access their courses through PEAK/Brightspace. A Peak login will be created for you once courses are assigned, and you will receive an email with your username and password.

Q: Will I be receiving school supplies?

A: No, your instruction is embedded within the online courses. You will not need any physical school supplies. For some English classes, though, you may need to check out a book from the library or order online.

Q: How are my courses assigned?

A: Your first two courses are selected by the K12 enrollment team (as well as our High School counselors) after a transcript review.

Q: When will I start my courses?

A: As soon as courses are selected and approved (please allow 2-3 days), the student will receive an email from PEAK support with his/her login information, and the Learning Coach will receive his/her login information for their Learning Coach account. Once courses are assigned, that will be the official start date!

Q: How many classes will I be assigned?

A: Students receive 2 courses every 8 weeks. We have found that students have far better curriculum mastery using this format.

Q: How will my student receive PE Credit?

A: Your student will complete a log of self monitored physical activity and send it to his/her mentor or middle school teacher. Your teacher/mentor will reach out to you with more information on your PE log.

60 hours of physical activity=5 credits.

120 hours of physical activity=10 credits

Q: My student has been working, but Peak is not showing that they have done anything. When will progress be visible on Peak?

A: The Peak system updates nightly, so progress will not be visible until the following day.

Q: Do I need to withdraw my student from their former school?

A: Yes! Now that you have been officially approved, please be sure to withdraw your student from their former school, as you cannot be enrolled in 2 public schools at the same time.

Q: What are the student expectations?

A: Students will receive 2 courses at a time for an 8 week period. Students must spend 2-3 hours per course per day. There are not specific times during which students are required to log in during the day. The schedule is flexible for each student's needs as long as he/she is working 2-3 hours per day per course. If a student is not logging in, he/she is not abiding by the terms of the Master Agreement. The student will receive a warning that he/she is truant. If the student continues to fail to actively work in his/her courses, the student risks being withdrawn from our program.

Q: How do I reach my teacher(s)?

A: Teachers can be reached via phone, text, and email. In addition, teachers will have office hours and weekly Class Connect sessions that you are welcome to attend. Your teachers are available to you when you need help. Please make sure to reach out to them if you are struggling with anything within your courses.

Q: When is the staff available?

A: Please be aware that all communications generally receive a reply from school staff within 24 hours (not including holidays or weekends). Although the online system is typically available 24/7, our staff members are available during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.

Q: Who do I reach out to if I need a new course?

A: When you complete your courses, your Mentor Teacher (grades 9-12) or Middle School Teacher (grades 6-8) will reach out to you to have new courses assigned.

Q: What is the role of my mentor teacher?

A: Our grade 9-12 students are assigned a mentor teacher. The mentor teacher is here to support the families with school procedures. They will collect work samples and attendance, monitor each student’s progress, and ultimately create report cards. They will be able to issue extensions when necessary, as well as request new course assignments. Their role is similar to a homeroom teacher who acts as a central person supporting a student’s overall progress. Mentors can be reached via phone, text and email (using whichever method you prefer).

Q: How does a Learning Coach monitor their student's grades and progress?

A: The Learning Coach will receive an email from PEAK support with their own Learning Coach login that should be used to monitor the student's progress and to check their grades on a regular basis.
