Agriculture Classes

What kind of students take FHS Agriculture classes?

College-bound students: FHS Agriculture classes meet requirements to get into a four-year university right after high school. Some of the upper-division FHS Ag classes are dual credit courses, as well. Students can earn FREE college credit upon successful completion of these courses

Students with an interest in health careers: Whether you want to become a doctor, a veterinarian, or a nurse, our Animal Science courses have a strong focus on the anatomy and physiology of mammals.

Students with an interest in science careers: Most of our courses are science-based, with lots of lab experiences incorporated.  All of our agriscience classes, including Ag Earth Science, Ag Biology, Animal Science & Viticulture, are science credit courses!

Students with an interest in careers in heavy equipment, fabrication, construction: Whether you are into woodworking, metalwork, technical skills such as plumbing or electricity, or small engines- Ag Mechanics offers a class for every level of beginner to advanced!

Students who like hands-on learning: Every course incorporates some type of hands-on lab or activity to help students understand the key concepts in each lesson. Our program also has a full Ag Mechanics shop, and Farm that includes a livestock pavilion, greenhouse, and vineyard.

Students who want to be part of something bigger than themselves! Being a part of Foothill Agriculture opens a door for students that allows them to be part of the FFA Organization! This organization focuses on building leadership and citizenship skills in students while preparing them for career success after high school. Whether it's leadership teams, competitive travel teams, or simply building lifelong friendships - there is something for every student in this organization!

The FFA & SAE areas are integral components to Agriculture Education, along with the classroom instruction where students learn the information they will apply in FFA and their SAE. FFA & SAE will account for 20% of the student's grade. If a student does not get involved with FFA leadership and their SAE, their grade CANNOT be reduced by more than 20%, therefore, a student will not fail their FHS Ag class solely due to a lack of participation in FFA & SAE.
