Welcome to Forest School!
WB: 6.10.25
We explored our Forest School area and talked about some important rules: no picking, no licking and ... no kicking! We looked for signs of Autumn using all of our senses! We saw different coloured leaves, heard birds chirping loudly, smelt some yummy basil leaves and touched spiky pinecones ... sadly no tasting in Forest School!
Leaf Creatures!
We listened to the story of Leaf Man and used our imaginations to think of what different creatures we could make using leaves. Some of our friends got super creative and made leaf crabs, leaf dogs and even leaf fish!

In RE, we have been learning about the Creation Story and thinking about how we can look after God's wonderful world. We came up with lots of different ideas and decided to head into Forest School to carry out our mission! Some of us were litter picking, some were watering and others were looking for wonderful treasures that God has created. Wow what a busy afternoon!

Firework Art!
We listened to a story called ‘The Quiet Little Firework’ and based our learning around fireworks, remembering our learning around Diwali and introducing Bonfire Night. We used natural materials to create our own firework artwork and thought carefully about what sound our firework would make!

Hibernation!
In Forest School this week, we learned all about hibernation (Wow! What a big word!). We learned that some animals hibernate during winter and what this means. We thought it would be a good idea to help these creatures out and build them homes in which they could hibernate! We made homes for hedgehogs, dormice, squirrels, and even ladybirds and butterflies!
WB: 12.01.26 - Nests!
We are egg-obssessed in Reception! Since we are now 'eggsperts', we decided to head down to Forest School and make our very own nests. We explored different types of nests and thought carefully about which animals might use them.
Who knows... maybe another creature will choose to lay their eggs at our school one day!
Nature Paintbrushes!
We headed off to Forest School to make our very own nature paintbrushes! We carefully searched for the perfect stick to use as a handle and collected leaves to create the brush. We then mixed mud with water to make our own natural paint. We couldn’t believe how well our paintbrushes worked when we tested them out! We got a little muddy along the way, but we had the best time learning, exploring, and getting creative outdoors.

Camouflaging snakes!
Our young reptile experts took part in a camouflage challenge! After finding the perfect "bendy" snake
sticks, the children carefully chose wool to match the natural colors of the forest to create their own camouflaged
snakes. We then transformed into a "flock of hawks" to see if we could spot the snakes hiding in the moss and
leaves, helping us learn all about how animals use their scales to blend into their habitats.

Signs of Spring!
We ventured out into Forest School to hunt for the very first signs of Spring. We searched high and low for new buds and green shoots, and had a wonderful time playing together in the warm sunshine. It was so lovely to see the garden coming to life!

WB: 20.04.26 & 27.04.26 - Bug Hunt
We headed off to Forest School this week for a very special mission. With our checklists and magnifying glasses in hand, we went on a grand minibeast hunt! You would not believe how many little creatures live in our garden—we found ants, flies, bees, worms, woodlice, butterflies, and even some very slimy slugs! We looked up in the trees, checked the budding flowers, explored around our pond, lifted up heavy logs, and even dug deep into the soil.
There was so much laughter and plenty of squeals of excitement (and a little bit of terror!) as we found more and more bugs. It was wonderful to see the children so curious about the tiny worlds right under our feet!
WB: 01.06.26 - Planting Magical Beans
Our classroom turned into a fairy tale this week when a giant beanstalk appeared alongside a letter from Jack asking for our help! We headed straight into Forest School to plant our own magical beans. We learned all about what plants need to grow and cannot wait to watch our beanstalks sprout over the next few weeks. Watch our video below to see our young gardeners in action!
Bug Hotel!
We headed off to Forest School this week on a very important mission: to build a giant bug hotel! We have been learning about how much we need bugs outdoors during the busy summer months, so we quickly decided they deserved a cozy, warm place to sleep.
We got right to work decorating their new "bedrooms" by collecting lots of outdoor treasures like leaves, sticks, rocks, and even pinecones to pack inside. Once we placed our brilliant bedrooms into the bug hotel frame, we couldn't believe our eyes - we immediately spotted bugs crawling around to check it out! We are so glad we could help our tiny garden friends!
