is a learning object repository used to support digital instruction in mobile device environments. Content can be shared with students using Google Classroom or by generating a permlink or QR code. You can also share content with colleagues! Have you logged onto Safari Montage lately? There is a new and improved interface, making it easier to find content and share with colleagues and students. Log on at safari.wlcsd.org. Although there is a “sign in with Google” button, it does not work for our district. Instead, students and staff log in with their WL network account.
You can share content with students in Google Classroom with just one click. Teachers who do not use Google Classroom can post a link to specific content on a classroom website or blog.
One of the biggest benefits is that students view excellent content without any distracting images or sounds that are found on most online sites. Ready to get started? The 5 min video on the right may be helpful. See video transcript here.
Interested in using pre-built playlists? 175 of them are available, K-12 in the core content areas. Check them out here!
also offers digital content that can be integrated into instructional practices. Teachers create their own account, which requires a school code.
How-to Guides and webinars are available once you log on. Click on "Professional Learning" from the navigation menu. The User Guide, linked below, may be helpful as you become familiar with Discovery Education.
WLCSD middle and high school students now have access to thousands of online books to check out and download to various devices. To access and check out books:
You can use Sora to browse your library and borrow books with your library card.
Note: Only juvenile and young adult library books are available in Sora.
To switch between libraries, tap a library from the menu or from the drop-down at the top of the Explore tab.
If you're using Sora for Android or iOS, books automatically download to the app so you can read or listen offline.
Note: You can't download books if you're using Sora in your browser.
Downloaded books have an icon on your Shelf.
If a book didn't download automatically, you can download it with these steps:
All educators are responsible for teaching digital citizenship whenever technology is being utilized in a lesson. Students need to be taught the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living and learning in an interconnected digital world in ways that are safe, legal and ethical. The resources below will be helpful.
Open educational resources are freely accessible, openly licensed text, media, and other digital assets that are useful for teaching, learning, and assessing as well as for research purposes. OER materials are available for any user to use, re-mix, improve and redistribute.
Traditional educational materials, such as textbooks, are protected under conventional copyright terms. However, more flexible licensing options used with OER materials have become available as a result of the work of Creative Commons, a non-profit organization that provides ready-made licensing agreements that are less restrictive than the "all rights reserved" terms of standard international copyright.
Here is a spreadsheet with a compilation of OER materials, organized by type of resource, courtesy of Beth Rayl.
