The Secrets of The Ocean!

Did you know that the Pacific Ocean covers ⅓ of the Earth’s surface?

But what makes it the largest ocean in the world? According to Brittanica, “Its area excluding the South China Sea, encompasses about 62.5 million square miles…” The Pacific Ocean extends from the 60 degrees south parallel in the south to the Arctic in the north. It lies between the continents of Asia and Australia on the west and North America and South America on the east.  The website Oceanliteracy.org, says, “As most of the Pacific Ocean is found in low latitudes its climate is mostly tropical and subtropical.” Lining the perimeters of the Pacific Ocean is the Ring of Fire, a string of seismic activity and earthquakes. A mesmerizing fact about the Pacific Ocean is that it contains the deepest documented oceanic trenches in the world like the Mariana Trench, which has a greater vertical dimension than Mount Everest!

But do you know what wonders lie beneath our clear blue oceans? Let's test your knowledge of one of the cutest animals in the ocean. What do you know about the remarkably cute Dolphin species?

Did you know that Dolphins are born tail first? Bottlenose dolphins are mainly found in the pacific ocean. Bottlenose dolphins are the ones you are most likely to see in the sea. They have short stubby noses, dark gray on their back, and a grayish pink belly. These Dolphins are very intelligent animals. The dolphins stay with their parents for about 3-6 years, eating fish, squid, and shrimp! (National Geographic)
