Abstract Zoomed Shoe

Pencil, Sharpie, Metallic Marker

8.5"x11.5"

In the first zoomed and cropped shoe piece I was mainly just attempting to find the most interesting part of my shoe as well as one that I could turn into something more creative and something that I enjoy. I also tried to pay attention to detail and proportionate, at first I found zooming in my shoe and drawing only that specific part to be harder than expected but as with most things it got easier as I went along. After I chose my shoe drawing and made it into the final abstract shoe drawing, I tried to work with colors and patterns. This relates to my life because within art I tend to stick with either more realism or more work with just varying shapes and patterns, so even if it didn’t turn out exactly how I had envisioned it it still was a method I was at least somewhat used to when it came to art as a whole.

For this project I used a 2h pencil to sketch everything out, and then with the abstract shoe drawing used a sharpie to go over the lines. Working with the sharpie made me more nervous to mess up, especially since I am used to more smaller and finer lines, but in the end I don’t completely hate how those lines turned out. After that I turned to a material that I had only used maybe once before, they were metallic markers found at my home. Some of them were harder to use, I had to use more fine point markers for thinner areas because the older versions of those colors were dried out, but I still enjoyed working with them and thought just the overall colors were super cool.

There was a lot of experimenting with the final project of the abstract shoe, I started off with one idea, with the bottom rig hand corner slightly resembling a more cartoony shape of a sun, and I went from there. After filling in the lines with a mixture of bronze and gold I just tried to add different patterns throughout the piece and got more ideas as it went along. It evolved from just simply being that one idea of a sun to the idea of a sun as well as the different colors and patterns that went along with it. My next steps could be just to practice more with things like this, even If I don’t like how it turned out, I should still practice working with random lines and trying to turn it into something I like. Creativity isn’t my strong suit, and I’d like to at least attempt to work on that a bit.
