When focusing on the hallway perspective work, I attempted to use ideas that made the piece seem a little bit off or abnormal, such as the ends or turns in the hallway turning into a sort of street with buildings. There are also more examples of this when I attempted to put a city on the outside of the windows, which would be out of pace for a school hallway, and some sort of trapdoor in the middle of the hallway. When working on this piece it truly began with just the idea of playing with the windows, I knew that I wanted to make the bulletin boards on the hallway walls into windows and have something more interesting outside of them, so I went with city believing that it was both out of place and was able to show perspective quite simply. I then worked on the vanishing point, continuing this sort of idea of a city, and the piece progressed to be what it is now. I chose to make what I made because I liked the idea of everything being just a little bit off, and the overall idea of turning a school hallway into something more weird intrigued me. It also relates to my life because I chose to just use different types of pencil and work with smudging, which is one of my favorite art techniques/ styles.

This work was made using different types of pencils. 2H for the initial lines which I went over in pen. I used 4B pencils to go over some of the lines outlining the buildings, but overall tried to mostly use 6B. I went over many of the straight lines that I had outlines in 2H and made them more sketchy or fuzzy with 6B, this was purposeful because It added a sort of style to the piece that I really enjoyed overall. I also used a charcoal pencil I had in my house for the lockers, wanting to give that area a sort of darker look/highlight so it would stand out more. Many times I debated using colored pencil but decided not to, and stuck with simple pencil, and in the end I am happy that I did.

I experimented with value a lot within this piece, an example being when I attempted to make the hole in the floor to the school, I tried to make areas of it darker to make it seem like an actual hole and as it it got deeper. I also played with value when attempting to draw the sky outside of the windows, making the top area of the sky darker than the others. My project evolved from just playing with the ideas of the windows and the city outside of those windows to adding more abstract or abnormal ideas and turning the piece into what the end product is. My next steps in future projects could be to explore with color more, although I really like the absence of color in pieces and I am very comfortable not using color, I still want to explore with color more and be able to use it.
