Artist Statement:

My drawing is supposed to represent anxiety through different forms of it that not many people can see. It is cartoonish and a little almost distorted with a lack of color to show how drained this can make you feel and how it messes with your head. The yellow as the background color is there to represent one of the most anxiety inducing colors. This topic relates to my life because i was diagnosed with severe anxiety and it is a huge problem during today's day and age, i had noticed it was not on the paper so i added it myself.

For this piece i used graphite, charcoal, oil pastels and chalk pastels. I picked these materials because i knew that they were all very defining tools and anxiety can be a very defining part of someone's life. I used the oil pastel in the back because i knew that i would be able to smudge and blend the variety of colors that i had used. And for the outlining i used the graphite but to define certain parts charcoal was the way to go.

The process i went through to be able to create this piece was many, many different sketches and each had a different perspective as well as colors, some more realistic than others. I don't really think it evolved as much as downgraded because i personally think that i could have added more detail and defining pieces and it could have told a much bigger story. My next steps could be learning how to define and shape my pieces better.
