Argument Writing

For this assignment we had to write a five paragraph essay stating that if the use of Native American mascots is a source of pride and honor or is it racist and detrimental to their culture. The first step of this was to attain some background knowledge on the topic. We had many different sources provided that supported each side of the argument. Next we had to create a thesis statement that showed what side we were arguing for and come up with our three supporting reason. After this we had all the information needed to write our five paragraph response.

When writing this essay I demonstrated critical thinking. I had to come up with the three best reasons that support my side of the argument. For example, I had many different reasons that support each side but I decided that the use of Native American mascots is racist and detrimental to their culture. I felt I had stronger reasons for this side. This allowed me to come up with three different reasons that supported my claim. I also preformed strong organization skills. Before I wrote my essay I created a graphic organizer. In this I included my thesis and three supporting reasons. These parts are most essential to an organized essay. Once you have these you can smoothly jump through your writing.
