To show how homeostasis is maintained I had to conduct a lab. My lab was created to show how my heart maintains homeostasis. I created an experiment where I measured each groups members resting heart rate, heart rate after walking , heart rate after jogging, and heart rate after sprinting 50 yards. I also recorded my heart rate 20 and 40 second after preforming each activity. My experiment showed how our heart rate increased when preforming each activity and returned to its resting form after waiting 40 seconds. After 20 seconds of running, walking, or jogging, my heart rate lowered but still was above my resting heart rate. Therefore our heart maintains homeostasis by returning to its resting stage after completing a physical activity.
After we finished gathering data, we worked as a group to create an online poster which demonstrated our work. The poster included certain parts such as a data table, graph, project analysis, and more.
While conducting this lab I did a strong job of demonstrating collaboration. I did this by being an active, mindful participant and provided accountability to the group. I always listened to my group members suggestions and provided my own suggestions to create a well organized experiment. Every time we worked on our project I completed what I was responsible for. This allowed us to move forward everyday and to finish our project on time. Another C I represented was being a conscientious learner. I did this by managing time and setting goals. Everyday we realized what had to be done in order to not fall behind. For example, I set about two class periods designated for gathering our data. I set goals of achieving a 90 percent or better as our grade. This made me work hard to reach my goal. In conclusion, collaboration and being a conscientious learner allowed me to succeed when completing this project.
Although our lab was a success, I did a poor job of using critical thinking. I did not do a good job of discovering data at the start of the lab. I was lazy and figured out the pattern of what was happening then continued the pattern guessing instead of actually finding the data. I realized is this thanks to the help of my teacher and went back to find accurate data. Another C I did a poor job of demonstrating was communication. When writing out visual poster I should have helped my groups members more instead of just focusing on my part. For example, I never proofread my partners work. When creating another project with a group I will improve on critical thinking and communication.
