Before we conducted this lab we discovered what a fortune telling fish is for the first time. We placed it on our hand and noticed what happened. The fish curled without anything happening to it. We found this surprising so we decided to conduct a lab on the fish. Our lab consisted of us heating or cooling a table top to different temperatures. Next we placed the fortune telling fish on the table to observe what happened. We did this step three different times with the table heated to different temperatures. After this we recorded our information by creating a table. Conducting this lab supported our claim that higher temperatures would lead to a larger curl by the fish.
Problem: What causes the fortune fish to move?
Hypothesis: If the fortune telling fish is placed on the same table heated to different temperatures, then the more heat will lead to a lager curl by the fish.
While working on this project, my group and I used communication and collaboration to complete our task with success. Before starting the task we communicated on how we would conduct our experiment. We each shared an idea then combined all of them to create a strong plan. For example, I had the idea of placing a hot plate on the table to increase the temperature. One of my partners suggested cooling down the table using an ice pack. We used collaboration by dividing the work load equally among the three of us. Moreover, each group member created three slides each individually. This allowed us to complete more work in a shorter amount of time. Communication and collaboration helped us succeed when conducting and creating our fortune telling fish lab/presentation.
Although we succeed on this project, we lacked some key skills such as critical thinking and being a conscientious learner. Instead of using critical thinking we just found our answer and moved on. For example, when conducting our lab we tested the fish one time on three different temperatures (three total tests). This could had lead to a random move by the fish because the movement could vary each time. Next time we should place the fish on the same heated or chilled spot to have a more accurate result. Being a conscientious learner was another lacked skill because we did not set goals. To illustrate, more we should have set a goal to leave extra time when we finished our project to practice the slides we were presenting. In the future it we would practice what we were presenting before we presented to the class. In conclusion the attributes we lacked did not cause us to not succeed.
