In 9th grade English we primarily focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listing. This is to prepare us for future English classes. Over this course we develop academic vocabulary skills and use the writing process to create string argumentative essays. We also investigate non fiction, drama and other forms of writings. Throughout the year we have reading and writing assessments and work with others.
A large part of the course consist of ¨Self and Society.¨ The books read read that relate to this are The Absolutely True Diary of a Part -Time Indian, Lord of the Flies, How to Kill a Mocking Bird , and Romeo and Juliet. We also read a couple independent reading books which we have small group discussions to talk about the book. This class really improves your English skills for the next classes and beyond.
