The Making of Our Project
My group members and I had the task of creating a video- no longer then 3 minutes long, about the physics of a specific task in your choice of sport. The sport we chose was basketball. Instead of choosing the basic physics of shooting a basketball, we thought it would be interesting to do the physics of tip off. It took us around 2 weeks to complete our video. We started with an original storyboard/blue print of how we wanted the layout of our video to look. Next it was time to put our ideas into action. We started off by filming clips, creating freeze frames and calculating the different pieces needed to perfect a tip off. Then we used the script we created to make a voice over explaining all the clips. Lastly it was time to put everything together to create this-
We did end up tweaking the script and storyboard as the project progressed and we started to figure out what did and didn't work well.
Horizontal Velocity- the speed sideways of an object with no outside forces Vh= 2.91 m/s
Vertical Velocity- Speed of an object up or down Vv= 3.6 m/s
Total Velocity- overall speed including both horizontal and vertical components Vt= 7.7 m/s^2
Conservation of Momentum- momentum before collision = momentum after collision
Transfer of force- a push or pull of an object causing a change in motion 78 N
Reflection
This project, for me went a lot better and was more smooth sailing compared to the last one we did. I think there were many factors in this. I found that my group members were way more cooperative and helpful. A long with this I tried to hold back on always wanting to take the lead and let everyone's voice be heard.
I have a feeling, working on my leadership and how I control being as bossy as I am will probably be my main problem throughout all 4 of my years in STEM. But hopefully little by little I will be able to work on it and become a more lenient group member, being able to balance being helpful but also distributing the work amongst all group members.
Aside from this, I think I did a good job staying considerate and having a good attitude. I tried to keep things fair and when others may have been bickering I tried finding a contrary. There were times we had different ideas and half the group wanted one thing while the others wanted another. Then we figured out fair ways to solve these disagreements.
In all, I really enjoyed this project and working with my group.
